Bulimia is an eating disorder in which someone eating a large amount of food in a short amount of time, AKA, binge eating, then followed by purging to get rid of the food they just consumed. Purging refers to attempts to get rid of food, possibly by making themselves throw it up or taking laxatives. Some symptoms of bulimia are partially the same as anorexia, like Unhealthy or dry skin, hair and lips, a lack of energy, low self-esteem, low blood pressure, and an obsession with the number of calories consumed. The exact cause of bulimia is unknown, but there are multiple factors that can possibly contribute to the start of it. Such as genetic, environmental, psychological, stressful life changes and influences from the media. Bulimia has quite a few serious side effects, as the heart isn't built to stand daily laxative use or vomiting. It can cause arrhythmia, heart palpitations, heart attacks or death. Constant, repeated vomiting can erode and wear down the enamel of your teeth, causing yellow teeth, mouth sensitivity and tooth decay, and for women, fertility issues. Repeated binge eating stretches the stomach and increases the amount of food you are able to eat, and in some cases, binge eating tears open the stomach lining and causes the stomach acid to spill to the rest of the body, it's pretty clear why that's not good.
