Informative Speech On El Niño
My name is John Chirinos and I am writing on behalf of the concerned people within the district on the topic of climate changes that not only affect the United States but also affect the entire world. I am aware that you have no legislative power on the world’s behalf but seeing as the United States of America is one of the greatest countries in the world, if we, as a nation, were to have regulations that would ultimately reduce global climate changes others may follow in our footsteps.
One specific example of the detrimental global climate changes is El Niño. I am unaware if you know the background behind this but El Niño is a naturally occurring event within the equatorial region, which causes changes in the global climate. Before, El Niño

    The repercussions are droughts and lack of food for society. This later leads to starvation, the decrease of organisms and economy issues. Another way global climate has been changing is shown in a diagram mapping out climate connections which states, “Greenhouse gases and the changes occurring in our climate make a connection due to one affecting the other. Since greenhouse gases trap more energy than needed, the climate is not used to this type of atmosphere, therefore causing problems such as melting snow, warming oceans, and droughts. Ultimately, the greenhouse gases add unnecessary hear and changing climates in a negative way”(Document 1). Based on this change, humans should do something in the near future about global climate change because the result of this affects weather patterns and the atmosphere as a whole. As the atmosphere deteriorates it brings other factors that are out of the ordinary such as a surplus of natural disasters, vicious storms, and dreadful temperatures. It is obvious that the world is changing in a negative way because humans are treating it in a negative way by neglecting the atmosphere and claiming the climate change is being fixed, yet adding on to the issue on the way. This worsens the situation and is melting away the blue world called Earth. The planet is gradually melting away, not to mention along with the polar ice caps, and will continue if the problem is not handled.     Everyone talks about climate change and how the Earth is slowly deteriorating, but no one seems to have specific examples. In Linnea Saukko’s “How to Poison the Earth,” she does use specific examples of what is causing climate change. She uses satire with a hint of sarcasm in her essay. She gives the reader specific examples of how to poison the Earth, but not really wanting to poison the Earth. Gretel Ehrlich writes her essay, “Chronicles of Ice,” a little differently. She uses personal experiences of visiting a glacier and the way that it is falling apart to explain climate change. She uses detailed, sensory description to explain what is happening to the glaciers that are so important to us. However, in Atul Gawande’s essay, “The Cancer Cluster Myth,” he uses a different approach. He uses the physical health of the people in our nation to draw the attention of the reader to the subject, however he does not get very specific with how exactly climate change is affecting us. Saukko’s essay had more of an initial impact when reading it. She did very well at explaining exactly what is causing climate change and how it affects us. On a personal level, Saukko hit the deepest.
