Top 5 most common breeds of horses
1. Arabianthis breed of horse you will mostly see in horse races for long distances. Arabian horses are very spunky and have a lot of energy. So they are a better horse for a more experienced rider. Most of this type of breed will get a injury with one of their leg ligaments and the their owner will retire them and most likely sell them to someone for trail riding.
2. Quarter horsethis breed of horse you will mostly see in western events. The only English event they are really good for is racing a quarter mile or less.
3. Paint this breed of horse is a cross between a quarter horse and a thoroughbred. They are mostly used in western events.
4. Clydesdale this breed of horse is a breed of the draft horse. You mostly see these horses in parades or in shows where they have all the really fancy metal plated tack. But they were first used for hauling things like logs and some people even use them today for that.
5. Thoroughbred this breed of horse is the best horse to have for horse racing they are very tall slim and athletic. They are used basically in all English events. Like I said before with the horse racing they will usually get a torn leg ligament and then their owners sell them to someone who will use them for trail riding because once you tear the ligaments in the legs they are no longer strong. Yes they will heal but the horse will never be back to its speed that they used to be able to race at. Found on ( horsetradition.com )
Most common Horse events (all of these events have a good time requirement)
Western:
At the beginning of rodeos they sing the national anthem and the 5 or 6 horses come out with the …show more content…
flags on the side of them. Then to warm up the crowd the trick riders come out. Then some rodeos might have mutton busting for little kids.
Barrel racing:there are 3 barrels set up in a triangle shape. If you want a good ride it should be 17 seconds and below.
Broncs: there are 2 divisions for bronc riding bareback bronc riding and bronc riding with a western saddle, the saddle they use is a western saddle but it doesn 't have a horn on it, they use a heavy lead rope to hold onto that 's tied around the horse and this is called a bronc rein.
Steer wrestling: this is an event also known as bulldogging. This is an event when 2 horses are lined up on the left and right side of the shoot, then when the shoot opens up the horse on the left will run toward the steer while the horse on the right will get close enough so then the rider can jump off and wrestle the steer to the ground.
Calf roping: in this event there is one horse on either side of the shoot the steer runs out and the rider on the horse takes off and ropes the steer around the horns.
Team roping: in the event there are two horses on each side of the shoot and the horse on the right usually ropes the horns and the horse on the left has to rope both back legs.

Popular English events ( all of the events that I 'm about to tell you about are timed events except for polo) Horse racing: multiple horses line up in the gates and then when they hear the gunshot they are off racing one lap around the track
Show jumping: this is an indoor event.
You have to make sure you have the best form/ posture at all times even when you are jumping. When you 're jumping you should let your body follow your horses body. The jumps are made out of plastic or foam bricks. When you 're competing there is no specific jump that you have to go over 1st or 2nd and so forth.
Polo: there are 2 teams and you score goals by using a white or a wood ball and you have to score in the other teams goal and you use a long mallet to hit the ball where you want it to go. No time required
Cross country jumping: This is an outside event it 's like show jumping but a little easier. In this event you don 't have to worry about having the best posture at all times. There is a trail set up outside and its on grass and in some spots dirt. The jumps are made out of logs and for some jumps there are puddles of water in front or behind the jump but not all of them are like that.
