Surgery is one way a patient with lung cancer can be treated. The surgery is used to gain access to the lungs and remove the cancerous tissue. Radiation therapy is another treatment and it is where radioactive substances are used to kill cancer cells, shrink tumors, and to get rid of other symptoms of lung cancer. Another treatment is neurosurgery and it is used when the cancer has spread to the nervous system. Neurosurgery includes removing the tumor. To add on, Chemotherapy is a treatment that includes the use of anticancer drugs to slow or stop cancer cells in the body. Chemotherapy can be delivered to a patient with a pill or liquid, as a cream on the skin, a device placed under the scalp, and a few more methods. Targeted therapy is another type of therapy that is used for treatment. It is when specific drugs are directed to attack cancer cells. The last type of treatment is interventional pulmonology, and this includes a number of other specific treatments that can be used alone or combined to personally help someone’s lung
