Establish of Credibility- United States population studied 17.1 % state that four eczematous symptoms empirically defined eczema
was found in in 10.7 % and empirically defined AD was found in 6%. Prevalence decreased with increasing income. Approximately two-thirds of individuals with an empirical diagnosis of eczema or AD had moderate to severe symptoms, one-third had sleep disturbances, and one-quarter had chronic unremitting symptoms. Just over one-third (37.1%) of those with symptoms reported a physician diagnosis. Peak onset for empirical AD occurred in the group of subjects aged ≤ 5 years. Body
I. Main Point 1- Causes of Eczema
A. Supporting Point- Eczema isn’t a type of disease that started from no where. Doctors don’t know what causes Eczema. Although we don know what type of eczema each skin could have.
a. Ezema mostly is dry cracked skin. The outer layer of your skin is what get damage. A lot this also has to do with not drinking a lot of water because interferes with the natural healing process.
b. The skin barrier2 appears to play a significant role in how effectively the skin functions, and why certain people get eczema while others do not. In healthy skin with a resilient skin barrier, allergens cannot penetrate deeper into the skin. Instead, bacteria and irritants are prevented from entering; the barrier also helps to protect proper levels of hydration in the skin. (Journal of Dermatological)
B. Supporting Point
1. Research into the skin barrier has shown that there is a genetic predisposition to a weakened, defective skin barrier. This allows allergens to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin.
2.. the defective skin barrier allows for increased interaction with environmental factors such as soap and detergent, house dust mites, hard water, infection and some topical medications and cosmetic products. This can result in a worsening of eczema symptoms, and a further breakdown of the skin barrier. ( Jourmal of Dermatological)
Although there is no cur for this skin condition there are ways for it to heal or calm the inflammation.
