ING Group was created in 1991 through the merger of the Dutch insurer Nationale-Nederlanden and the Dutch bank NMB Postbank Groep.
ING is a global financial services brand, currently offering banking, investments, life insurance and retirement services to meet the needs of a broad customer base.
According to Fortune magazine, in 2010, ING was the largest banking/financial services and insurance conglomerate in the world by revenue with gross receipts exceeding €54 billion per annum.
ING has about 94,500 employees worldwide. About 68,000 of them work in the banking business and about 26,500 in the insurance business.

They are not like any other bank; as you probably noticed, they do not even use the word bank in their name. This is because one day, they expect to be something bigger - they will concentrate on their position as an international retail, direct and commercial bank, while creating an optimal base for an independent future for their insurance operations (including investment management).
