SITUATION: Initial interview

I did the first interview for my first year, first placement student. We discussed learning outcomes which the student would like to achieve and the resources available. We also discussed induction information. I informed the student that as I was doing the mentor and assesors course I would have a qualified mentor observing the interview.
Feelings
I wanted to ensure I included all the relevant information to give my student the best start to her placement and was worried that there may something I would miss out as this was the first time I had done …show more content…
I was able to explain to the student the clinical learning oppurtunities that are available on the ward and how she could access them (Walsh D, 2014). I felt I was comfortable discussing what would be expected of her in order for her to get the most out of her placement. Communication with a student is important in establishing a good relationship which will enable good feedback (Grossman S.C, 2013).
Conclusion
As the ward was very busy that day I felt that I didnt have enough time with the student for her initial interview and I know how important this is in creating a good learning environment (Walsh, D 2014) so this is something I will try and improve during this learning process by using good time management on the ward.
Action plan
I could have put more time aside for the initial interview. Kinnel and Hughes (2010) says that time management is an important part of being a successful mentor so I will work on time management of caring for my patients to enable I have enough time with my
