The main characters of each book read, had a quest of some sort to understand their families. Children ask a lot of questions and even young adults are curious about life. Dr. Rebecca Palacios wrote, “Children’s innate curiosity plays a big part in their “why” questions. Their curiosity about the world around them helps to build concepts, skills, vocabulary, and understanding of the unknown. And you can help channel their curiosity and need to know why so that you help foster learning in a positive way” (Palacios, Rebecca). She explains that asking and wondering why things are the way they are helps children understand the world around them. When they ask questions, their innocence makes it impossible to not understand why they would ask those questions. Although Oedipus Rex is an adult, he wanted to know who his true family was. He had a missing piece of him and said to Tiresias, “ To whom? Wait! Who on earth are my parents?”(Sophocles 25). Either one is not morally accepted in today's society. Oedipus learns from an oracle that he will slay his father and marry his mother so he leaves his “father” and ends up killing a king. That king heard his son would kill him one day and takes precaution all the time. The king's wife Jocasta then weds Oedipus and they have children. Oedipus finds out through a Shepherd and a Messenger that he was king Laius’s son. Which means that Oedipus’s wife is his mom and his kid’s mom is also their grandmother. He was in an incestuos relationship with his mother without knowing. Technically he is innocent because he did not know that was his mother, but it is morally wrong. In the Kite Runner, Amir brings up a date in which something happens to him that changes him forever. He sees his friend getting raped by a boy who bullies them. “In the end, I ran”(Hosseini 77). Amir decides to run from what he had seen. Children do not know how to deal with sexual assaults because they do not know what sex is.
