The identity of the unknown solid white compound is determined and verified through a series of tests which uncover physical and chemical properties necessary for identification. A new sample of the same compound is then created to further prove the accuracy of the identification. The compound must be identified in order to be used. For example, KCl is used in medicine, scientific applications, and food processing. It also tastes a lot like sodium chloride, and is the main ingredient in dietary salt substitutes.1 The other possible compounds substance 634p could be have very different properties and uses though they look similar. Almost all…

Abstract: A 50mL (we used 100mL) volumetric flask was used to determine the amount of sugar in a can of Coke per mL in 5 different solutions. Using the calibration curve we determine the amount of sugar per mL in a can of coke. This experiment concluded that there is 43.83g of sugar in a 12oz can of Coke.…

In this investigation, the student is to identify the ionic compound in a solution from a list of possible compounds given solutions of all the possible compounds. The student needs to find the reactions in between each solution including the reactions with the unknown solution #1. The colors of each solution will help to determine if the solution reacting with the unknown #1 is the same as the unknown and the different colors of the solutions are qualitative data. The reactions between each combination of solutions were also qualitative data and helped determine the unknown solution. If there was a reaction between one of the 8 solutions and the unknown solution #1, then the solution could not be the unknown. The student shall also discover how ionic compounds react physically and chemically to form one ionic compound. The students will also discover how to balance chemical equations to represent chemical reactions.…

The majority of medications currently developed and prescribed are in the form of tablets or capsules due to their ease of consumption by the patient. The identification and characterisation of tablets and capsules is a vital process within the drug development timeline, as the pharmaceutical form of a substance can impact significantly its stability and bioavailability [23]. Taylor & Langkildl explain how useful it could be to be able to identify these solid-state medications in situ, particularly where different salts are present [24]. Tablets often contain low doses of API, which can present analytical…
