Step 1: Develop a minimum of 5 goals you either have or would like to have. 1. I want to lose weight. 2. I want to open a home for the elderly. 3. I want to buy a new car. 4. I want to learn Spanish. 5. I want to graduate college with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Step 2: Re-write each of your established goals from Step 1 using the S.M.A.R.T. Goal format; (See the example in the Quick Reference Notes in the VIP2 Toolbox). 1. I want to lose weight.
S= I want to lose 60 pounds by eating right and exercising more
M= to fit in smaller sizes
A= I will eat healthy foods and do exercises that affect each part of my body
R= I will spend less time eating for fun
T= I will begin today
“I want to lose 60 pounds by eating right and exercising more so I can fit into smaller sizes. Beginning today, I will eat healthy foods and do exercises that affect each part of my body. I will no longer just eat for the fun of it.”

2. I want to open a home for the elderly.
S= I want to open a home for the elderly to take care of the elderly who need assisted living
M= to have a home of assisted elderly
A= Find a trailer and set the rooms up for resident stay
R= I will be my own boss and have made a life accomplishment
T= I will begin as soon as my cast from surgery is off of my foot
“As soon as I get my cast off of my foot from surgery, I want to open a home for the elderly in order to take care of elder individuals who need assisted living. I will find a set up a trailer that I can sit up as resident’s rooms and be my own boss which is a life accomplishment. “

3. I want to buy a new car.
S= I want to buy a new car because I have never had a brand new car in my 56 years of living.
M= to be safe and secure
A= I will save $600 every month to count towards the down payment
R= I will have a highly dependable ride to keep during my older years that has a warranty
T= I will obtain this goal by March of 2018
