Abstract
Citronella grass has been serving from years as a mosquito repellent in the field of ancient and modern medicine. Commercially available mosquito repellents are chemical based and disastrous to human health. An attempt has been made to prepare a 100% herbal product based on Citronella leaf remains which is left out and of no use after steam distillation. It is cheap, effective and environment friendly. It is a first and preliminary work based on formulating and evaluating herbal mosquito repellent cakes using natural binders such as neem powder, potato starch, corn starch, coconut shell powder, wood powder and cow dung. The efficacy of prepared citronella leaf cakes were evaluated on three different parameters such as flammability, burning time and mosquito repellency test. Also, the cakes were sprayed with different concentrations of Citronella oil. Based on the results obtained from these parameters, the residual percentage of each combination of cakes was calculated and it suggested that Neem

    I Want A Wife

In a typical married relationship, there is a husband and a wife. The husband’s role is to work and provide for the family while the wife’s role is to stay at home, do chores, and take care of the kids. With this dynamic, the husband and wife are two halves of the same whole. This means they are equal, right? Well in 1972, Judy Brady writes an article “Why I Want a Wife” which details why she also wants a wife. However, the article’s message is not what it claims; it has this underlying theme that the women are doing much more than the husband but is not treated as equals. In fact, Brady conveys this message to her readers using ethos, pathos, and logos.…

    Mosquito Repellents

    • 2368 Words

The first truly effective active ingredient used in mosquito repellents was citronella oil. This material is an herbal extract derived from the citronella plant, an Asian grass. While citronella had been used for centuries for medicinal purposes, its repellence was only accidentally discovered in 1901, when it was used as a hairdressing fragrance. Since citronella oil is a fragrant material, it is thought that the chemical terpenes of which it is composed are responsible for its repellent activity. Citronella oil does repel mosquitos, but it has certain characteristics which limit its effectiveness. For example, it is very volatile and evaporates too quickly from surfaces to which it is applied. Also, large amounts are needed to be effective.…

    T. Confusum Case Study

confusum depend on several factors among which are the chemical composition of the crude plant extracts and insect susceptibility (Casida, 1990). Crude plant extracts contain components that increase their repellency and /or toxicity. The highly toxic and repellent effects of the main constituents of these oil are the cymol, 1,8-cineole, terpineol and a-pinene, which have been demonstrated against T. confusum by researchers (Ojimelukwe and Adler, 1999 and Tapondjou et al., 2005). Repellency could be due to the blend of oil constituents or to minor compounds present in oils and characterized by a significant biological activity (Cosimi, et al., 2009). Various biological activities have been reported for some plant species e.g. Mentha, antibacterial (Oyedeji and Afolayan, 2006), antifungal (Bouchra et al., 2003), insecticidal properties (Akrami, 2008) and repellency effect against storage pest (Mahmoodvand, 2012, Saeidi and Moharramipourm, 2013). Many researchers pointed that some of plant essential oils showed strong repellency effects against storage pests (Liu and Ho, 1999; Akrami, 2008; Caballero-Gallardo,et al., 2012 and Saeidi and Moharramipour,…
