When Ha got to Alabama she didn't know anything about the place and she didn't know anyone else except for her cowboy. Her story is like other refugees because they either had to leave because of war or natural disasters. “.. The communists crashed their tanks through the gates of the presidential palace… Saigon is gone.” (Pg.69, Lai) At this time Ha and the rest of the people on the boat found out that that the North took over Saigon and that it was over. Other refugees share the same story like Ha but not with the same events. “..As our community grew, the Bhutanese government began to feel threatened… Many of us were tortured and imprisoned.” (Para.2, Til Gurung) In this article the people had to flee because their government began to feel threatened and anyone who didn't know the language or practice the religion were bound to be tortured or imprisoned. As they fled the government started to take over Bhutan and only the people that knew the language or practiced the religion were safe. The people that fled along with Til Gurung they had no possibility of returning home so they opted to apply for a resettlement in the United States.
