Four factors, which make up the environmental factors, are economic, sociological, political and technological. Funding, contributions, referrals, and competitors are all significant economic factors to the running of an organization. It is because of these factors that human services exist. Sociological factors, on the other hand, include the demographics of the community the organization will be serving. This area of the agency will gather information about the community and create a target group. Furthermore, they will also create a list of their needs, weaknesses, strengths, culture, and what opportunities exist. The political domain gives the organization a set of standards to follow in regards to gathering and storing data. Technological factors help the agency organize all data needed to run a successful organization. If they stay on top of the latest Technology, the company can gather and store data easier than using a paper and a pen.
Internal factors include organizational purpose, mission, and philosophy, organizational planning, organizational operations, human resources, technological resources, and financial resources. The purpose, mission, and philosophy of the organization allow them to obtain a vision. The vision gives an organization the ability to create clear goals and gives them the motivation to achieve them. Furthermore, the organization will now take these goals and create a plan. The plan allows the organization to monitor goals to ensure they are getting accomplished. Operations, on the other hand, look at what expectations are in place for each department, program, or unit within the agency. They will then ensure these expectations are being fulfilled by gathering data.
