ABSTRACT
The importance of Computer Aided Design (CAD) in the process of modern architectural education should never be understated. New design methodologies that incorporate digital media into the creative process are becoming common objects in design studios. Presently, the common trend in architectural academia is the gradual – in some cases (partial/complete) – transformation from traditional design media to the more advantageous digital media category CAD falls under. This research project aims to evaluate the trends relating to CAD integration in architectural education in Nigeria. Taking the Architecture Programme of A.T.B.U Bauchi, the study identifies the insufficiency of CAD content in the design curriculum. The methodology adopted for the study is the Survey Research Method where questionnaires were distributed to respondents to collect data. The Percentage Method was adopted to test the Hypotheses for final evaluation. It was found that the integration of CAD into architectural education has a great impact on the development of CAD proficient graduates of architecture in Nigeria. It was recommended that a framework for workable CAD integration into the design curriculum should be adopted and utilized in order to attain CAD-proficiency in architectural graduates.
