VU-2100 Faith and Learning
Abstract
Successfully integrating faith and learning is important and necessary in a Christian University. I will be discussing the concepts utilized in integrating our faith in to our learning. I will touch on four main principles that I have learned over the last week which actually brought some clarity to me as to the importance of integrating as opposed to interaction.

The student has to be in a place within and without their heart where they are willing to accept the role as a Christian learner, that means being open to all facets of the integration process. “Education must be an act of love, of worship, of stewardship, a wholehearted response to God” (Holmes, 1975, p. 49). This perspective on learning opens the student to look inside of them. The institution and the professor have the responsibility to motivate the Christian learner. Holmes states, “The college must therefore cultivate an atmosphere of Christian learning, a level of eager expectancy that is picked up by anyone who is on campus for even a short while” (Holmes, 1975, p. 49). 51). The ethical approach deals with what is fair or unfair, just or unjust, and even right or wrong. Just being able to distinguish between the differences can be challenging when the student is dealing with man’s law and the Christian law of the land. The values taught to young children and adults may not be the ones students are introduced to outside the home and the Christian college. The Christian learning environment helps the student with moral judgments and decisions that he/she make when they are approached with unethical issues. The foundational approach serves as the starting point or the ground work for the integration of faith and learning. Holmes suggests there are three disciplines to the foundational approach that are vital to implementing the integration of faith and learning; “historical, philosophical, and theological” (Holmes, 1975). “They give us precedents on which to build, a tradition in which we too stand” (Holmes, 1975, p. 54). An informed Christian learner makes a better student and in turn creates a learner more susceptible to the integration of faith and
