Integrative Reflection Paper
I think that all modules, including the discussion on interpersonal skills, career development, emotional maturity, leadership skills, and service and commitement provided by the course (PERSEF1) are meaningful, but there is one module that I think has influenced a lot in my personal development and effectiveness --- which is career development. In this module, I realized many things in planning for a person’s professional life. One of them is that the major effect of work is not to provide the money for attaining and maintaining a standard of living, as long as the person loves what he/she is doing, the work load should not be a burden but a challenge waiting to be overcome. Another statement that I reflected on is: If you plan correctly, you should be able to find the one job that is right for you. I definitely think that this statement is true but I have never foreseen the negative possibilities that a person’s career path may shift even after graduating from college. I thought that if a person has set goals and plans ahead, he will most probably have the right job for him. However, I didn’t think of the cases when a person actually plans correctly, but ends up with a job not of his preference. For example, a person who takes up Finance course but ends up teaching preschool students. This module made me reflect on my decisions as a college student like: Do I see myself as an accountant in ten years time? Do I really love this program that I’m currently taking? This module has helped me opened my eyes and become more serious in my studies because I believe that my academic performance in college will reflect my future job after graduation, through which I am equipped with the skills needed for my profession.
I became more confident in sharing my thoughts, feelings, and actions in relation to the various topics taken up in class. For example, through the first exercises of the Grandest Version of myself, I was confident in sharing

Testimonies can bring even more power to the already powerful gospel story. When I think of powerful testimonies I think of Billy Sunday’s testimony. The text for this course, Organizational Behavior and Management by John M. Ivanevich, Robert Konopaske and Michael T. Matteson, attempts to use the latest theories, research, and organizational applications while retaining the classic and long-standing work in organizational behavior as the basis for its discussion. It places a great deal of importance on management's understanding of organizational situations and its ability to react by properly interpreting and predicting behavior. Managing organizational change is done by focusing on behavior (individual and group), organizational structure, and processes. On the other hand, Leading Change by John P. Kotter underscores the differences between management and leadership. Strong and effective leadership is required for successful transformations of organizations. Kotter reasons that an unsuccessful transformation can be attributed to errors in the following stages: establishing a sense of urgency, creating the guiding coalition, developing a vision and strategy, communicating the change vision, empowering employees for broad-based action, generating short-term wins, consolidating gains and producing more change, and anchoring new approaches in the culture. This paper will discuss how the concepts presented in the text relate to the eight stages covered in Leading Change.…

Career uncertainty is a thought that goes through the mind of many young students that are attending college or university. “When students commence university studies, they typically choose subjects that are of interest to them, and hold only vague notions of intended career paths” according to a study done by Zegwaard and Cole (282). This is why cooperative education provides a great base for defining a student’s career choices. The co-op placement gives the student a taste of the real world without having to fully commit to a specific field. For example, if a student is enrolled in the George Brown diploma program for Business, he or she may decide they want to specialize in accounting. Without any hands on experience, the student may graduate school and acquire a position with an accounting firm. After a few weeks or months, he or she may find that profession is not to their liking. If the student had enrolled in a co-op program, they may have already discovered this during their first work placement term. During their second term, they may have opted to try a different field and realized that project management was much more fitting to their personality and abilities.…

After reading the article "Choosing a College Major,” I feel more at ease with the decisions I will be making concerning my major and future career. I was surprised to learn that most people will change careers around four or five times throughout their life. The textbook reading has helped broaden my viewpoint on my major and career. This book has showed me that one major won’t always lead you to one particular job and that traditional reasoning could impede my career planning. By using the chaos theory, I can consider what I know, what I can’t know, and what I can learn in order to make reasonable decisions in my life. The activities throughout this book have helped me narrow down key themes, skills, interests, values, and other important areas of my life.…

North of Manila, the island of Luzon tempted me with some wonderful mountainous areas, volcanic landscapes and a beautiful coastline dotted with heavenly beaches. Heading up the west coast from Subic, the Zambales coast amazed me being dotted with laidback resorts, while the Hundred Islands , as they say, a favourite weekend trip from Manila, gave me an idea on what to visit this summer. As I remember, further along the coast, the province of La Union draws visitors particularly for its surfing. North of here is Ilocos Sur, known primarily for the old colonial city of Vigan, where horse-drawn carriages bounce down narrow cobblestone streets. This scenario made me go back to the ancient times. As I was able to remember, the area around the capital of Ilocos Norte province, Laoag, features a number of sites related to former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who was born in the nearby village of Sarrat. Another spot was Palanan – the jump-off point for the barely explored Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park. For many visitors, though, the prime attraction in Northern Luzon is the mountainous inland Cordillera region. Highlights here include the mountain village of Sagada with its caves and hanging coffins, and the stunning rice terraces around Banaue and Bontoc. In the village of Kabayan in Benguet province, it’s possible to hike up to see mummies, discovered in caves in the early twentieth century. Kabayan also provides access to Mount Pulag, the highest mountain in Luzon, as I was able to remember being discussed as “Mt. Pulog”. Finally, far off the northern coast lie the scattered islands of Batanes province. For me, this region is the best in choosing destinations for a vacation.…
