Definition
Integument comes from the Latin word integumentum, meaning "cover" or an external layer.In animals and plants integument is any natural external covering, such as skin and membrane. The human integumentary system is an external body covering, but also much more. In human beings integumentary system is one of the organ system that protects body from various kinds of damages, such as water excreation.
MAJOR ORGANS AND FUNTIONS OF INTEGUMENT SYSTEM:
The system includes some major organs like skin , hair, scales and nails.
The integumentary system contains a wide range of functions;
It may involve in providing the waterproofing ability to the body.

EPIDERMIS It is epithelial tissue which provide protection to the internal and external surfaces of the.
DERMIS The dermis is second layer of skin which lies in between the epidermis and the subcutaneous layer. It is thicker than the epidermis. It contains the skin structures like hair, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands all are being rooted in the dermis. This layer also contains blood vessels and nerve fiber .the dermis layer is being formed of connective tissues.
Hypodermis
The hypodermis — also known as subcutaneous tissue — is the deepest layer of the skin. It is being beneficial to insulate the body and to cushion internal organs. The hypodermis is composed of connective tissue called adipose tissue, which regulate the storrage of excess energy as fat. Blood vessels, lymph vessels, nerves and hair follicles also run through this layer of skin.
Accessory structures It includes hair, sweat, sebaceous glands and nails.
Hair
