Many new businesses that make a mark are due to the fact that they help solve a real problem thus making people’s lives easier. One of them Is GrabTaxi, a taxi booking app that has shot to fame in the last couple of years. We chose this company as it is one of the hottest start-ups in South East Asia.
1.1 Background of the organization
GrabTaxi is a company that makes a smartphone app that allows users to book a taxi using their smartphones. It was founded in Malaysia in 2012, by Anthony Tan. The app matches passengers looking for a taxi in real time with cabbies who are in the area. It has famously created the two tap mechanism to book the cab in just two taps. Also you can share your location if you have safety concerns and, you can see the driver approaching on the app and also passenger and cabbie’s contacts get exchanged so that they can more easily contact each other.
1.2 Importance of external and internal analysis internal analysis allows a company to look for things that they are best at doing and then focus on them. It also shows companies what they should not be worrying much about or should be outsourcing to other companies.
External analysis allows companies to understand which are the factors affecting the growth and survival. This is made worse by rain or extreme weather conditions when everyone suddenly want to jump in a taxi. Taxi booking apps can solve this problem by a clever combination of modern technologies and matching the drivers to passengers in a fast and reliable way. There lies the opportunity as the market for this assisted matching is huge.
High No. of taxis/drivers not all are using the app
Currently the no. of taxi drivers that are not using the app are more than those using it. Thus in terms of market penetration there is a lot of untapped market
Most people don’t own their own cars
In Singapore, large no. of people do not own cars and thus there is always a time when they need to take taxi rather than public transport due to some urgency or other
