I am impressed by Sr. Kathleen’s wisdom and kindness. I was so amazed that the kindness of one person could change the lives of hundreds of other people and even the society, because evidence had shown that decreasing the number of homeless people will help decrease the criminal rate. I used to have biased toward the homeless people until I worked there several times. The guest speaker she invited to talk in the class impressed me a lot by their personal stories. It might be unfair that though they had already been incarcerated for their criminal, some of them may have to keep suffering from their faults almost the rest of their life. There are still too many things need to be done to help the homeless people, such as building the shelter for the female homeless people, or providing the free public transportation service for them. Though sharing the same sky of Bismarck, I didn’t know that the night when I was struggling with all the exams and homework, there might be somebody in couple of blocks away were suffering from the cold winter and struggling to live to the next morning. Nash’s lecture inspired me to participate to help the patients in the third world countries. I could not forget the photos from her lecture, especially the one with all the washed surgical gloves hanging outside to be ready for reuse. It is lucky to live in a wealthy country. People may feel it is normal to throw out anything they don’t need, including the medical device and equipment. Though I feel a little pity to see the way we deal with “trash”, I didn’t realize that the patients in the third world country may need that. Thanks to Dr. Nash, she gave us the resources to recycle the health equipment. In my next clinic and my future career, I will let the manager in the clinic know these organizations so that the medical equipment and devices would not be wasted. In addition, when using the medical equipment in the future, I will pay more cautious to protect
