There are different leadership approaches and these leadership theories helped Terrill determine the best solution for all the problems. DGL international is a manufacturer of refinery equipment. The company hired John Terrill to manage its technical services division. After a few months of service the executives informed John Terrill of the problems. After meeting the staff Terrill realized that the problem was the need to write reports. Terrill tell the engineers to send the reports directly to his office. the meeting with the top management came Terrill recommended that as a alternate for of making the engineers file reports, they should bellowed to do their job and only one report per month should be required of the engineer.

In the case Terrill had to make use of leadership styles to solve the company's problem. John Terrill made sure that he know about the staff's condition and then he changed some of the practices mostly on the daily submission of reports . The employees had an easy time saying their complaints to Terrill because he trusted him. Terrill trusted the employees through helping them reduce their duties. Terrill was open to assist his subordinates and he was willing to provide direction and support. These were needed to attain goals. Terrill used the ideas of his subordinates to solve the problems of the firm. Terrill looked for ideas that can move the organization to reach the company's vision. Terrill made sure that he communicated well with the personnel, he was visible and this gave him respect from the personnel. Terrill determined what caused the inefficiency of the personnel and from that he instituted some actions that he believed would not only solve the problem but would help the company reach its goals.
