1. Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non-endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption?
The argument to permit the hunting of whales based on cultural exemption is unnecessary when the whale being haunted are non-endangered species which are being killed for food and commercial purpose as a source of sustenance to the people will same whale stoke remain sustainable. Such act of whale hunting could be likened to a farm killing a cow to sell its meat to a butcher. Then for the main reason of food and sustenance whale hunting should be permitted for the Norwegian and Japanese. On the opposite end the killing of endangered whale should only be allowed or permitted under strict situation.
The linkage of whale hunting to culture in both cases of the Norwegian and Japanese is quite understandable main due to the fact that the hunting of whales has existed for 100’s of years while tradition and cultures has be formed around this age old …show more content…
It is very hard to ignore the need of some village or community that are sustained by their dependence on the food and proceeds of whaling. Total stopping of whaling will not only impoverish this region but also destroy whatever part of their culture they hold dear.
6. When we speak of the world’s opinion on the preservation of whales the focus should be on endangered species of whale not on non-endangered species. The latter can be used for food and commercial purpose so long as the stock volume of the whale being hunted does not decrease drastically to the point of extinction.
