Internet Case Study For Chapter 8
Internet Case Study for Chapter 8: Location Strategies.
Southwestern University’s Location Decision
Question 1: The 5 factors that are selected by Gardner for evaluation seem reasonable. But for a decision as important as this to make it based on just 5 factors seems unwise as it does not reflect the numerous variables. However, they are the most important and crucial things that must be considered when deciding which is the best option. Some more factors that could be considered are availability of hotels, bars and restaurants in the vicinity, any kind of financial support from the local authorities, local regulations regarding building or expanding structures etc
Question 2:

How the physical features of the area affected your decisions Near the hills we placed our schools and apartments, giving a physical advantage in which there is less wind for the buildings. Our hydropower plant also is relevant in its features as the placement is nearby the splitting of the river into the two. This maximizes the amount of power we can get from the plant. Our sewage treatment plant is near one of the rivers to maximize it’s efficiency as it can take water from the river and use it to move our sewage and clean it. Near the ocean is our fishery, as that is where we will be doing the fishing.…

I think the most important factors that need to be considered are the proximity to customer base and the transportation costs. Since the buildings are already established, the other steps would have been taken into consideration once before. The company is well aware of the land and utility costs and the supply network, as well as the labor climate. For the company to refine a logistics network that is already in existence, only the most important factors need to be addressed.…

"What's unique about cyberspace is that it liberates us from the tyranny of government" (Dyson, para 16). This statement made by author Esther Dyson adequately illustrates the controversy that has come along with the mass utilization of the internet by the public. In these past couple of decades, the internet has grown to becoming a ubiquitous, real-time network of communication and knowledge sharing that has given the public accessibility to an endless range of content. This accessibility however has also brought the internet under criticism by groups who believe that the internet's unrestrictive nature can have negative consequences on society, and especially in regards to the strong presence of explicit material and unregulated freedom…
