Daughter: What does that mean?
Mom: Honey, the executive order 9066 was instructions to the government to send all people of Japanese ancestry to internment camps.
Daughter: {blank stare} I don't understand… what are internment camps???
Dad: It just means that we have to take some of our belongings and stay at Tule Lake for a while.
Mom: But don't worry honey it will be just like camping!
Dad: The only thing that could make it worse is if our friend *gestures to sydney* couldn’t come with us,
Friend: Oh no, I’m not!! I’m going to an internment camp in Manzanar! And it’s all because of the War Relocation Authority!
Daughter: But I don't want to leave Sacramento, CA!
Mom: Just
think of it as a mini vacation. Who knows, you might even see your friend there!
Daughter: I guess...
Friend: [reads informant letter] From what i’ve read, the War Relocation Authority is in charge of relocating all Japanese Americans and the Wartime Civil Control Administration is building the temporary places where we will be staying before the internment camps are fully built.
