Internship Report: Officemax
The organization which I am doing my internship project is Office Depot OfficeMax. OfficeMax was an American office supplies retailer founded in 1988. Core values of OfficeMax is integrity & accountability, think company & customer first, teamwork & trust, focus and discipline, and sense of urgency. It is now a subsidiary of Office Depot. My clients for this project are employees working at OfficeMax in Skokie, IL. There are seven OfficeMax’s in Illinois. For this project I would only be assisting one store. There are twenty-two employees working at this location.
The Need
Current situation is many employees and customers have been injured. There is a lack of knowledge and confidence level on employees at OfficeMax. At least 10 out of the 22 employees have been …show more content…
injured while working at OfficeMax. It is important to address this issue now because safety of employees and customers is essential.
The Plan
OfficeMax needs to improve proper lifting techniques, equipment operation, customer and employee safety, and first aid kit knowledge. The purpose of this training is to reduce injuries at OfficeMax. I will produce a training manual, which focuses on many activities to keep employees and customers safe from injuries. I am taking this opportunity to educate the employees about safety precautions at the workplace. I will provide training for employees. I will produce and deliver a safety-training manual to my sponsor and to my HRD professor.
Project Breakdown
On Saturday, January 6, I will meet with Joanne (Store Manager) and discuss my plan of this project. I will meet with her from 9:00-9:30 at OfficeMax Skokie, IL. During the next meeting, I will see what the employees already know, their attitude towards the topic, their motivation, resource needed, goals and the steps to accomplishing the goals. After that process, I will give an overview of the training program to employees. I will give a survey to employees to see how much they know about topic that’s being presented. I will have a PowerPoint on the equipment’s we use at OfficeMax and steps to
proper lifting. I will do a learner analysis by using the survey that was taken from the employees I will be providing a quiz on the terms of the equipment’s. I will do the task analysis, which would show a step-by-step process on proper lifting of equipment’s. I will meet with employees to tell the difference of lifting in stock room vs floor and actual performance. I will be training employees on proper lifting. I will demonstrate how to properly lift and then I will test every employee individually to see if they learned what I taught them. I will be training on proper lifting of equipment’s while using a ladder. I will demonstrate how to use pallet jack properly. I will have a handout on pallet jack for employees. I will teach different methods of stretches for everyone to practice after lifting. I will put together performance objective for employees on safety issues at OfficeMax. I will teach how to prevent injury for customer/associate and create a script for employees to follow to tell customers. I will show a PowerPoint on importance of first aid kit. I will tell what is needed at a first aid kit. I will provide a quiz on first aid kit for employees to do. I will teach every employee on slip and fall prevention. I will have a handout for all employees to follow. I will hand certificates to employees for completing the training at OfficeMax. There would be evaluation for one week on their performance, whether or not if they gotten injured within that time.
If they did, it should be recorded along with if they used any material from the first aid kit. I would also have a record to point out if any customers have gotten injured. These records are the data, which can show if the amount of injuries decreased. If the injuries have decreased from before then it shows that the training was effective. I will hand certificates to employees for completing the training at OfficeMax. I will have someone review my training manual and get feedback on how I did. After making corrections, I will hand the training manual to Joanne at OfficeMax.
