The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri is a short tale found among a collection of stories entitled Interpreter of Maladies. The narration is generally about how Indians are living far from their country, in this case, the United States try to reconnect with their countries of origin through culture and religion. The story revolves a family that takes a trip to India. They are a family of five, and the parents are working class Americans. The story revolves around the visit the family had in India. They were picked by a taxi driver called Mr. Kapasi. He was bewildered by the family’s lack of connections with their culture. The manner in which the young parents went about engaging with their two sons and daughter confused him the more. …show more content…
The main character Jing-Mei narrates how from a very young age she was in denial of her ethnic origin. From her time in school in San Francisco, she recounts how she denied being Chinese and even the convincing done by her fellow Chinese schoolmates did not yield much. At age 36 she decides to take a journey back to her native home China. Her journey to China was a result of her dying mothers wishes to find her twin siblings who were abandoned. She arrives and settles in Guangzhou. Her perception of China is immediately changed. Before she came, she thought China to be a dirty and filthy country. The fact that China is run by a communist regime did not help matters. What she saw in China was not what she was expecting. She is bemused by the development going on in Guangzhou. All these teams are incorporated in the objectives of the company to achieve positive results on the balance sheet. A team is a group of employees that have a common goal and handle situations collectively. Some of these teams are permanent in the lifetime of their presence in the company while some change over time. Characteristics of a team include; diversity, the size of the team and the level at which they are operating from. All these characteristics are important for the composition of the team, and they serve to ensure that the goal intended is achieved. The team also needs to interact among themselves and find out the strengths and weakness that each one of them has. The company’s ability to succeed is determined by the type of people it has. A company that has smart individuals that are dedicated will be successful. Well, accomplished companies in the United States and other countries such as Britain and Germany know that the success of their companies will only be possible if their employees are highly motivated. Academic qualification is not the only criteria used but the ability to think on their feet and uses their God-given intelligence is what they mostly want to tap and

For the first time in her life she asked a question to Kevin her adoptive dad about Chun-mei.     Through the meeting with the half sisters, Jing- Mei finds her heritage and identity of who she really is. At first, she is amazed that her half sisters resemble her mother. The more she looked, the further the resemblance of the twins look to Jing-Mei.     Suyuan had to make the hard decision to leave her twin babies on the side of the road in hopes some kind stranger would take them in, that way she would not have to see them die. Suyuan searches for her babies all through her life in America, sending multitudes of letters; they finally get in touch with her two months after she has died. Because her mother is not alive to meet her children, Jing Mei takes her place and the trip enables her to finally recognize her Chinese ancestry. The minute she enters China she "feels different" and can realize that she is "becoming Chinese" (306). At fifteen Jing Mei believed she was only as Chinese as her "Caucasian friends" (306). Yet her mother counters thoughts, telling her: "Once you are born Chinese, you cannot help but feel and think Chinese" (306). Once in China Jing Mei decides her mother was right and she "has never really known what it meant to be Chinese" (307). She has never understood her mother or her heritage. This trip is the connecting link to understanding her life. She begins to feel natural in China, thinking to herself on the train: "I am in China… It feels right" (312). Jing Mei sees the landscape, the people, the histories, and the families in China and sees where her mother was speaking from all of those years. She knows a "little percent" of her mother know (15).
