Interview I interviewed Maria Riveras, who is a crime scene investigator with the Hillsborough Country Sheriff’s Office. Though she was quite busy the day of our interview, she was very welcoming and informative to be able to assist me with this assignment.

Q: What is your name?
A: Maria Riveras.
Q: How old are you?
A: 40 years old.
Q: What is your job title?
A: Crime scene investigator with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Q: How long have you held your position?
A: With the sheriff’s office for 6 years, and prior to that 6 years with the Tampa Police Department.
Q: What is your specific area of work?
A: There isn’t really a specific area, but we respond to major crime scenes and document and process the scene with collection of evidence.
Q: Where did you do your undergrad?
A: I attended Saint Petersburg Junior College, their crime scene technology program.
Q: Did you intern at any agencies before acquiring this job?
A: No.
Q: What type of experience was necessary for your position?
A: Well initially when I started there was no training. I took a training position, actually, with the Tampa Police Department. That’s how I got into the field.
Q: Is your position hourly or salary?
A: It depends on the agency, but for me it is hourly.
Q: What type of material do you deal with on a daily basis?
A: Well typically, we do the same duties but we respond to crime scenes and no crime is the same. We basically we do the same duties but every crime scene is different.
Q: Are you a sworn officer?
A: Not with this agency, but I know some agencies do have sworn deputies or police officers that do crime scene.
Q: Are there any sworn officers in your related field?
A: There’s only one sworn individual that’s with our agency because that is
