Interviewing My Grandma
The person I am interviewing is my grandma, Chong Xiong, who is 64 years old. At this time, what she considered the most important in her life are her children. As for me, I also considered my family important as well as school because I want to have a good career to support my family. My grandma and I both think that family is important because it is where we go to when we need help. However, I still consider other things important like school because I am still young and still emerging as an adult. In the other hand, Chong retired from the work force for almost 20 years now and her purpose in life now is to take care of her children as best as possible. Interviewing my grandma and looking at her responses she is at the state of generativity

On today, while out seeing my client Marshall, his grandmother became upset because after having a discussion about who should be the overseer of Marshall’s disability check. I stated to her that if she really wants to care for Marshall, it shouldn’t matter whose overseer of his check. I have left for extended periods for professional or academic ventures in the past but Vanessa and I both are deeply rooted in my parent’s home. Between December of 2008 and July of 2009 Vanessa lost a grandmother, two great grandmothers and a great grandfather. She was blessed with seven years of her life in which she was able to get to know the generation of people that she had come from. In 2005 her father moved in with his elderly mother and grandmother after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer; shortly thereafter my maternal grandfather began to rapidly deteriorate, physically and mentally, at which time he moved in with us. Vanessa gained a great respect for the elderly as well as life experiences and knowledge one can only gain by exposure to older generations; however, these blessings came with lessons in illness and death and the real life challenge of coping with the sadness of end of life deterioration and the loss of loved ones. Vanessa understood that death was the inevitable end to life in the flesh, but she also understood that her loved ones were starting a new life in heaven. Instead of displaying exclusively classic signs of grief that would normally be seen in a child her age under the circumstances, she approached coping with a bitter sweet perspective that…

She has the middle class values of honesty, hard work, progress, achievement and respectability (Friedman, et al., 2003). Individualism and equality are valued, but she stresses respect for God, family and elders; good grades and academic achievement above all else. Health care for the children is important to her. She utilizes her health care insurance to makes sure they have all the needed physicals, immunizations, eye and dental care recommended by their pediatrician. She has delayed her own routine health and dental care and screenings to meet work or family commitments. I explained to Lois that in a recent study a questionnaire was given at both men and women to evaluate family burdens; domestic responsibilities; the appraisal of work and family; and values involved in work-family balance. The results of this study show that, in the present economic and cultural context, assuming family burdens and domestic responsibilities increases the positive appraisal of work and family (Cantera, Cubells, Martinez & Blanch, 2009).…

the first time I saw my grandmother braid her hair, I was instantly astonished. The way she maneuvered her hands as she glided the hair between each finger, overlapping each strand of hair onto the next, was so delicate and precise. The finished braid dangled down her back, reaching all the way to her waistline, it reminisced that of a princess, from the storybooks I had seen. I knew only after moments of watching her, this was something I had to accomplish; easier said than done.…

As people continue to age, they will eventually become “elderly” and enter into the later adulthood stage of life. Elderly people have more time to reflect upon their lives and that’s perhaps why they enter into Erickson’s socioemotional ego integrity versus despair stage. Basically, what defines this stage is that old people will either be within ego integrity and have a positive or accepting nature of their life, including mistakes or they will despair and have a negative outlook on their life full of regrets and should haves that can’t be changed (Arnett, 2012). What this means is that most elderly people will be socioemotionally content or fuel potential anguish which can influence their outlook of life as a whole. Arnett goes on to say that “The physical and cognitive problems that become more common in the course of late adulthood…

The person that I interviewed is Emily Vandoo, a floor nurse at Lankenau Hospital, located in Philadelphia Pa. Emily has been in the field of nursing for 3 years and has cared for toddlers to the elderly. Emily prefers not to work with children, especially those with terminal illnesses. She has a better tolerance to assist elderly patients who have live longer lives and who were able to have valuable time on earth before their death. Age appropriate considerations are made depending on a person's developmental stage in life. For example, in the elderly, it is important to allow autonomy, consider mobility issues and living arrangement. Family structure is an important consideration in regards to family members assisting with care for the frail elderly. Cognitive impairment is also a factors that make family structure an important part of care and knowing who will be involved. It is important to ask a patient about culture beliefs and incorporate it in their care. Emily stated, Jehovah's witness will not allow you to administer blood products, Muslim females may request to only have women caregivers and Jews may need a manual nurse call bell during the Shabbat, because they cannot turn on electricity.…
