INTRODUCTION

Tourism is characterized as service and experience product of which destination attributes that are very important in attracting local and international tourists to make their first time and repeat visits. Motivation is defined as “a state of need, a condition that serves as a driving force to display different kinds of behavior toward certain types of activities, developing preferences, arriving at some expected satisfactory outcomes”.

A place like Kawasan Falls is a premier destination for tourists who travel to this area from around the world. Tourism literature generally looks at behaviour of tourists. Therefore, tourists are subject of investigation in terms of their preferences to visit certain destinations.

There are some factors to consider why people travel to a certain destination. When we began to understand the factors, we began to plan more for our tourism to increase more. We want to study this topic because we want to have increasing number of tourist visiting in the country. When we are able to discover different factors why tourist travel, we can have great contribution of tourism planning in Kawasan Falls. We believe that Kawasan Falls is one of the most visited and popular destination in Cebu.

According to Merwe and Saayman (2008), there are six factors that motivates people travel. The nature, activities, attractions, nostalgia, novelty and escape from routine. In the study also conducted by Mahika (2011) the analysis of tourist motivations has the advantage of preparing tourist practitioners, and therefore to prepare and forecast the offer of tourism products that match the current and future demand. It was really true because the development will also affect the economy of the country not just in the destination. Kassean (2013) stated that the travellers perceived the destination as a place to rest and relax prior to their other needs.

The poor might migrate, moving their homes from one place to another in order to live better or just to survive, but only the affluent could afford travel for sightseeing, amuse-ment, and business.
