I welcome you to your study of eCommerce Fundamentals subject. This subject introduces you to the concepts of designing, developing and maintaining business using Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure including the world wide web. The internet is an enabler for eCommerce / eBusiness to be conducted locally, regionally and globally.
The learning may at times be so easy and other times difficult. Between us we should ensure that the learning is fun. eCommerce Fundamentals will not make you an expert in the field. The study will introduce you to many aspects of eCommerce and business which you will study further when you arrive at Swinburne Lilydale.
Starting at the beginning and to develop an understanding of how ideas can be built on ideas and how new ideas can come about by connecting ideas, I have produced a History of the Internet Microsoft Powerpoint presentation to accompany this paper. It is my intention that both the paper and the presentation should give you the opportunity of piecing together HOW we have arrived at this exciting Information Age. In the presentation I highlight the significant events which have enabled integration of the pieces to build an eCommerce framework. This framework has enabled us to think differently about business development as we recognise the opportunities and challenges of flexible business methodology and inclusion of all stakeholders.
