Report suggests that the current main energy sources are fossil fuels (e. g. oil, gas, and coal) (Planete energies, n.d.). However, fossil fuels are non-renewable, it will run out in future and the price of oil, gas and electricity keeps rising yearly. As a result, the need of alternative energy is important. The main alternative sources are nuclear energy, solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectric energy, biomass power and geothermal power (National atlas, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to illustrate some of the alternative energy sources and their advantages and disadvantages. 2. Advantages and Disadvantages of Solar Energy
2.1 Advantages of Solar Energy
The advantage of solar energy is they are boundless and renewable resource. Moreover, it is also pollution free.
2.2 Disadvantages of Solar Energy
Installation of solar panels is extremely easy and will save a lot of electricity cost in the long run but the installation cost is expensive; this is one of the disadvantages of solar energy. The other disadvantage is it can’t be used during a storm, on a cloudy or rainy day, and also at night (School Tutoring, 2012). 3. Advantages and Disadvantages of Nuclear Energy 3.1 Advantages of Nuclear Energy
The biggest advantage of nuclear energy is it does not pollute the environment as there is no greenhouse gases release. Furthermore, it also has a great reliability. According to a report, the nuclear energy release a million times more energy than hydro or wind energy, this is also one of the advantages of nuclear power. Besides that, it helps to save electricity cost in long run (green living. love to know, n.d.). 3.2 Disadvantages of Nuclear Energy
However, there are many disadvantages as they concern a number of safety issues. First, they can be used to make nuclear weapons as they can cause a large scale of destruction. The other disadvantage is its
