Washingtn Univeristy psychologist, Richard DeCharms, held a yearlong study on sixth grade students that were recieving a new type of teaching method that was taught to their teachers. Teachers were instructed to “de-emphasize grades and time limit--lowering the pressure on kids—and distributed workbooks and other materials that prompted learning for its own sake”. In the same district other sixth grade students were taught with the usual methods. When spring test scores came in, according to the Iowa Test of Bsic Skill Scores, the students that participated in the study were a year and a half ahead then their peers. “Six years later, a follow-up study found that the “intrinsically motivated group” also graduated from high school at a higher rate”. The purpose for incorporating this study is to show that with built-in motivation students can achieve greater goals with new methods. Throught the appeal to logos they hope that these test results will encorage school districts to establish similar…

Sigmund Freud, a Jewish Austrian neurologist that developed a wonderful theory in 1915 that stated all behavior is motivated and that the primary purpose of someone’s behavior was to serve the satisfaction of needs. This serves to be true in two or more situations in the common workplace. For instance, if company morale is low, there is a very slim chance that the company as a whole will be doing well. People are driven by their need to feel satisfied and wanted at the same time. Therefore, when others exhibit behavior that is non-favorable, it is most likely due to their lack of being satisfied. Behavior can either be motivated in a positive and negative direction.…
Political culture plays a huge role in Texas politics, but what is political culture? Political culture is a set of attitudes, beliefs and sentiments which give a meaning to a political process. It includes moral judgments, political myths, beliefs, and ideas about what makes for a good society. A political culture is a reflection of a government, but it also incorporates elements of history and tradition that may influence today's population. Political cultures matter because they shape a population’s political knowledge and actions. When you look at the state of Texas as a whole you see two political cultures that really shape Texas’s politics, government and public policy. These two dominant political cultures are described as idealistic and traditionalistic.…
Not only are students enrolled in their school's toughest classes, such as honors and Advanced Placement, but also in the AVID elective. For one period a day, they learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college seem attainable. Their self-images improve, and they become academically successful leaders and role models for other students.…

The self-determination theory states that people have three basic needs. A need for autonomy, which is to feel a sense of self-directedness, the need to feel competent, and the need to be related to something. People are motivated with the things that will help meet these needs. People are motivated when their actions are self-determined. “The more self-determined the motivation is, the more the person experience positive outcomes, including persisting in the activity” (Lavigne, Vallerand & Miquelon, 2007). People perceive they have choices available to them. This theory gives another reason for negative effects of rewards on intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is when a student really wants to learn something. Students will be motivated if they feel they relate to what is going on. They also will be motivated if they feel competent. If a student feels they are smart and can do a task successfully, they will be more motivated to get it done. If an individual has the three basic needs they will have self-determination.…
The program incorporates a rigorous, core international curriculum, while including other components including Theory of Knowledge and CAS (creativity, activity and service). To most students, the work may seem excessive for a high school education; However, the opportunity to earn 30 college credits with the program, in addition to the lessons of time management and critical thinking are worth more than the relaxation most associate with a typical high school experience. I thrive on experience, and participating in the maximum amount of classes and extracurriculars are the best way to feed my intellectual…
Receiving recognition by tangible means allows students to believe in themselves. Also, by providing Intrinsically motivated students a prize for prompt submission of assignments. However, an extrinsically motivated student can be given a trophy for highest overall achievement. Rewards have far reaching benefits where, intrinsically motivated students will be happy with a career that produces enjoyment and interest. While, the extrinsic motivated student is comfortable with a generous salary and a promotion(ken Bain,2004.).Mary Sherry(n.d) says each time she walks into a classroom, she as a teacher, has to get the attention of students, no matter that distraction at…

Khomeini was an orthodox Islamist who originally accepted traditional Shia political theory that the government must be run in accordance to religious law, suggesting that a parliament of Shi’a jurists could choose a king. Khomeini later declared that Islamic jurists were the true holders of not only religious authority but political authority in Iran as well, and that only the rule by a leading Islamic jurist would prevent innovation in Islamic law and insure that Sharia law was properly followed in the…
