The outermost of the home button is a scratch resistant sapphire glass lens that protects the assembly. The second part is a stainless steel detection ring to detect your finger. When that is triggered, the third part, the Touch ID sensor takes a high resolution snapshot of your finger and compares it against what’s stored in the Apple A7 chipset. If it matches, you will be able to unlock your iPhone or make a purchase. The fourth part, the tactile switch, is what allows you to make a purchase or unlock your phone. When you give Siri a command, your device collects your voice, converts it into a audio file which is turned into binary code, and is then sent to the Apple servers.
