Investigating Related Factors to Teenagers’ Delinquency of Shiraz According to Social Control and Differential Association Theories *Bijan Khajehnoori1 , Habib Ahmadi2, and Saeed Keshavarzi3 1- Assistant Professor, Department of Social Science, Shiraz University 2- Professor of Sociology in Shiraz University, Department of Sociology, Shiraz University 3- MA student in Sociology, Department of Sociology, Shiraz University *Corresponding Author Email: bkhaje@rose.shirazu.ac.ir Abstract Present study is to examine the effect of the family atmosphere, deviant sibling and association with delinquent peers on teenagers’ delinquency. By virtue of survey method and random sampling, 381 ones (students from Shiraz) were selected based on Cochran formula; also Sutherland’s differential association theory and Hirschi’s social control theory were used to formulate the theoretical framework and the study model was designed on the same basis. The study findings indicated that there was a negative and significant relation between the positive atmosphere of family and the teenagers’ association with deviant peers, sibling and the teenagers’ delinquency. In addition, there was positive and significant relation between association with deviant peers, deviant sibling and teenagers’ delinquency. The Lisrel software was used to examine the direct and indirect effects of family atmosphere on the teenagers’ offence in order to test the study model. The findings show that by virtue of direct and indirect effects (Through association elements with the deviant peers, sibling); positive family atmosphere determined about 35 percent of the teenagers’ delinquency changes studied in Shiraz (a city in south Iran).
