In the novel Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison there are three main themes . The first theme is race it effects the main character deeply . The next theme is the main title invisibility and identity. The third theme is power.
In this novel racism plays a key role. From the first few pages the narrators acts on according what's acceptable or stranded for his race. He gets to see a new world in the north where race still plays vital role but in a new way. He also sees races can be against each other. A good example would be would be when clifton tries to take the narrator’ s credit.
Another theme in this book is invisibility .The main character is invisible not because not apparent physically but because society does not see him. They don't see him racially and he is invisible to his own race. Invisibility is not always bad, He really realize this when he gets the letter telling him to slow down . Power is not good thing when certain people have it . The character is always dealing with someone that has more power than them .The first character that he has trouble with is Dr. Bledsoe .Dr Bledsoe has power within in his own race and think the character is foolish for not thinking just like him . The narrator is mad at him all through the novel for having so much power .
