Calculations: 1) M1V1 = M2V2
K2S2O8
Experiment 1
(0.20M)(2.0mL) = M2(11mL)
M2 = 0.036 M

Experiment2
(0.20M)(4.0mL) = M2(11mL)
M2 = 0.073 M

Experiment 3
(0.20M)(2.0mL) = M2(11mL)
M2 = 0.036 M

I-
Experiment 1
(0.20M)(2.0mL) = M2(11mL)
M2 = 0.036 M

Experiment 2
(0.20M)(2.0mL) = M2(11mL)
M2 = 0.036 M

Experiment 3
(0.20M)(4.0mL) = M2(11mL)
M2 = 0.073M

2) Rate = ½ ([S2O33-]/Δt)i
M1V1 = M2V2
(0.010M)(2.0mL) = M2(11mL)
M2 = 0.0018 M (For experiment 1, 2, 3)
Experiment 1
Rate = ½ [0.0018M]/(117.76secs) = 7.7 x 10-6 M/s
Experiment 2
Rate = ½ [0.0018M]/(60.88secs) = 1.5 x 10-5 M/s
Experiment 3
Rate = ½ [0.0018M]/(59.95secs) = 1.5 x 10-5 M/s

3) Table of Experiments 1, 2, 3

Experiment | Initial [S2O82-] (M)Rxn Order = 1st | Initial [I-] (M)Rxn Order = 1st | Initial Rate (M/s) | 1 | 0.036 | 0.036 | 7.7 x 10-6 | 2 | 0.073 | 0.036 | 1.5 x 10-5 | 3 | 0.036 | 0.073 | 1.5 x 10-5 |

    The purpose of this experiment was to determine the differential rate law for a chemical reaction based on the relationship between the concentration of reactants and the rate of reaction. Since spectrophotometers, like Spec-20s, provide information about concentration, these instruments were used to monitor the increase or decrease in concentration of a reactant in a solution over time. By plotting [phph2-] versus time and changing the concentration of OH- used, the order of the reaction with respect to each reactant and the overall order of the reaction can be determined.…

    The experimentally obtained data collected for the reaction between IO3- and HSO3- at various temperatures is clearly supported by the Arrhenius equation. Referring to Graph 1.7, the line of best fits clearly passes through most of the data points displaying a linear relationship between temperature and the rate of the reaction. The R-squared of the graph which is a statistical measure of how close the data are to the fitted regression line is 0.9818. This number is extremely low which indicates that the data points are very close to the theoretically derived calculations.…

    Introduction: The rate expression for this reaction is of the form: rate = K(CV+)M(OH-)N Where k = re constant, m is the order of the reaction with respect to the concentration of CV+, and n is the order of the reaction with respect of OH-. In the experiment the concentration of OH- is purposely made 1000 times larger then Concentration of CV+. Thus, the concentration of OH- changes so little during the reaction that can be assumed to be constant.…

    The purpose of laboratory assignment 3 was to measure the rate at which a chemical reaction takes place. For the purpose of this lab we measured the rate a balanced oxidation/reduction reaction between iodine, hydrogen, and bromate ion occurs. The above reaction occurs slowly so we used a coupled iodine clock reaction to measure the rate of the oxidation/reduction reaction because it occurs much faster but is still dependent upon the other reaction. To accomplish this, two mixtures were prepared in separate Erlenmeyer flasks. In the 250 ml flask .010M potassium iodide, .0010M Sodium thiosulfate and distilled water was prepared. A 125 ml flask was also prepared with a mixture of .040M potassium bromate, hydro chloric acid and…

    This experiment was done to determine the effects of the nature of the reactants, concentration, temperature, surface area and catalyst on the rate of chemical reactions. The nature of the reactants implies a difference if the reactants are aqueous or organic, acidic or basic or if they occur in the same phase or not. Acid-base reactions, formation of salts, and exchange of ions are fast reactions while reactions in which large molecules are formed or broken apart are usually slow. Generally, the rate of reaction is directly proportional to the concentration of the reactants, as well as to the temperature. Greater surface areas and addition of catalysts also increase the rate of chemical reactions.…

    The purpose of this lab is to gain experience because an Iodometric titration was preformed and to determine the molarity and mass percent of an analysts in an commercial product. In this experiment my partner and I prepared 500mL of 0.07M sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate. As well, we added 0.05 grams of sodium bicarbonate and mixed it together with DI water. We got 60 mL of sodium thiosulfate solution in a clean 100-mL beaker. Then filled the buret to just above the 0 mL mark with sodium thiosulfate solution.…
