According to online source, vocabulary.com, realism is the way how we perceive things in life, accepting them for what they are. Realism is dated back to ancient Greece which later extended beyond the Western world to India and China. Modern realism emerged on the eve of World War II, when the prevailing belief in a natural harmony of interest among states came under attack. However, global politics is the field of study on issues and people around the world by applying theoretical principles like economic relations, the gap between rich and poor; democracy, its economic and political benefits; human rights and the different emphasis placed on rights by different societies; war and peace; ethnic conflict; the environment; and power. With the words of Burchill (2001), realism is considered the most influential theoretical approach in international relations.
With realist states, they pay special mind to themselves and expect the worst because they have no global government or higher authority to enforce rules or claims. It then can be said that states go after power and capabilities that are materialistic in hopes of survival in a world full of uncertainty and anarchy. The current issue in global news about United States and Iran’s possible nuclear deal is one example of the realist theoretical approach in understanding global politics. The way how I see it the United States and Iran will never have the capacity to trust each other on account of political agitation, vulnerability and key engages.
