Irish Distillers parent company Pernod Ricard employs over 18,000 people globally. It is a decentralised organization and so is Irish Distillers. Power and responsibility is delegated throughout the organization to middle management and to lower level management. Decentralisation is also used as a strategic asset for capturing growth in all the countries in which it operates.
There are many layers of management in this complex organization. There must be clear lines of communication all the way through the company for it to work effectively.

At the time of the merger with Pernod Ricard, Irish whiskey was in decline. With new leadership and strategies in place they decided build a new distillery in Midleton adjacent to the old distillery which had been in production since 1825. A Dublin distillery was also closed. This meant that cutting edge technology could be incorporated into the process and make better uses of resources. Even though the process of making whiskey hasn’t changed in centuries, new technology makes production run more efficiently. Jameson was picked as the flagship brand that would be used to spearhead the company’s sales and marketing. This coincided with Irelands most prosperous period in recent history.
In the late nineties Jameson began to make appearances on the television shows like Friends. The marketing people at Irish Distillers had great success with this kind of product placement both in the U.S and all over the world as Friends was and still is a global brand. Many American musicians have also used the words Jameson in their song lyrics. Even Rihanna claims it is her drink of choice.
Last year, 2015 Jameson passed the 5 million cases barrier. Irish whiskey in general is enjoying unprecedented growth now. Sales are growing rapidly all over the world. With expanding middle classes in both India and China, there is a growing demand for high end premium products right across Asia.
