The first group of the old immigration I would like to discuss is the Irish. During the old immigration and they were treated as wild animals. They had to deal with poor wages for jobs and were discriminated against for their actions and beliefs. They left their homeland because of food shortages that caused starving and poverty. The potato famine caused many of these issues. They were hated and treated badly and had to deal with civil unrest, severe unemployment and many inconceivable hardships back at home. The group from new immigration is Italians. Italians were discriminated against in many of the same ways the Irish The immigrants were. The Italians were also treated like animals. They were either put in jail or drowned. They came from poverty, overpopulation, dislocation, and natural disaster spread over IL Mezzogiorno in Italy. The Italians jobs were digging tunnels, laying down railroad tracks and they built the first skyscrapers. The Italians brought their culture and way of life to America. The third and final group I would like to discuss are the Chinese. During the other immigration movement the Chinese dealt with a lot of the same discrimination and setbacks that the Irish and Italians. The Chinese left their homes for a safe haven from the national disasters, internal upheavals, and imperialist aggressions that were in their country. The Chinese were treated poorly and were paid very little for their hard labor. They worked as laundry and grocery operators, farmers, miners, and fishermen in California and in other States and that's how they contributed to America. This party was made up of what we would call the middle class in today’s society. The working man or Workies as they were called wanted shorter working hours and no debtors imprisonment. The working class wanted to be treated equally. This group has turned into the current democratic party, we see today. The Immigration Restriction League (1894) believe in limiting immigration. This league believed immigrants coming into our nation would bring poverty, crime, delinquency, labor unrest, and violence. They didn’t believe that allowing new immigrants into the county would benefit the nation at all. They want to get the government to allow less immigrant to our country and use propaganda to get people to side with them and becoming an isolation nation and stopping making immigrants coming to America, but they disbanded and joined groups that didn’t less long and were forgetting. They feel that people who don’t know our culture or language and live in our country only try to change it for the worses not for the better of the country and it gets worse and worse until they are no more immigrants coming or going it our
