Is Animal Farm about Corruption?
Is Animal Farm about Corruption?
Animal Farm is a book written by Gorge Orwell in 1943-1944. Many allegories are used to represent the Russian Revolution. It can be said that the book is about many themes. We can agree with the fact that one of them is corruption. However, it is not the main one. Mostly it would be the theme of deception or betrayal.
According to Collins Cobuild “Corruption is dishonesty and illegal behavior by people in position of authority or power”.
In Animal Farm the ones “in position of authority” are the pigs, Napoleon, Squealer and Snowball. The pigs begin by leading and encouraging a revolution against the humans, but they end using the animals and what they gain from the revolution, to benefit themselves. An example would be with the seven commandments. When they first write them, they are in favor of all the animals. However, throughout the book the pigs slowly change them without making it too obvious to the animals that in changes they make, they are the ones who keep all the goods. “Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. No animal shall wear clothes. No animal shall sleep in a bed. No animal shall drink alcohol. No animal shall kill another animal. All animals are equal.” All seven commandments end up being changed to something that favors them.
The fact that they benefit themselves because of the help of their power, intelligence and position compared to the rest of the animals, can be used as an example of corruption because they are the ones in “position of authority” and they are being dishonest and using illegal behavior. Although this can be used as an example of corruption, in my opinion it also is an example of deception and betrayal because they make the animals believe something and in the end they lie to them.
Deception is to deceive someone usually in order to get some advantage for yourself. “The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised

“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely” (Lord Acton). The novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, demonstrates multiple ways how power was abused during the time of the Russian Revolution. This book displays many parallels with history, for example, how the animals on the farm represent the people of Russia. On the other hand, the pigs, that portray the leaders of Russia, who wanted nothing but authority which lead to corruption. In interest of gaining more privileges and power, Squealer persuades the animals to let the pigs sleep in the beds using guilt and fear tactics.…

In the novel Animal Farm, George Orwell hints that power corrupts through the use of an allegorical storyline. By using historical criticism, one can analyze the causes and effects of ruthless ambition. During the WWII era, there was widespread corruption in many nations, as seen in Germany with Hitler and Russia with Stalin. This time period of chaos exposed the lack of compassion among humans. Similar to this era, there were cultural and political struggles among the humans and animals in the farm as well. Ironically, in the animal’s struggle to free themselves of human dictatorship they end up oppressing their own kind.…

Power does corrupt because in chapter 3 there is a lot examples from the pigs that clearly show how power corrupts in many sorts of ways. One of the examples that shows how power corrupts in chapter 3 is when the pigs make the other animals do the work and they hardly did any work themselves to help out the current state that the farm was in. Therefore i believe that that should be one of my examples for why power corrupts. I also believe that this should be an example because it reminds me of how some police officers use their power for bad and it makes them corrupted.…

One who has power can lose the sense of right and wrong so that morals do not matter. Absolute power corrupts those who possess it. This can be seen throughout history, such as during World War II, and proven by the actions of Napoleon in the allegory Animal Farm by George Orwell. A good quote to show one of the many themes of this book is “It is not power that corrupts, but fear. The fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it, and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it”-Aung San Suu Kyi.…

Why is it that people with high authority make so many mistakes? Well that is what the story looks at. In Animal Farm by George Orwell, the author studies the topic of power. Indeed, the story suggests that power can always be corrupt. Firstly, power can corrupt in the way that one is not capable of its management. Another way power can corrupt is that when one has high authority, they abuse it. Power can also be corrupt in the way that one lies and manipulates others in order to gain even more dominance. As a result of this, the power a person withholds is often corrupted.…

The novel Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novel based on the lives of animals living on a farm in England. To me, I think Animal Farm mirrors life when Joseph Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union because absolute power corrupted both societies. In Animal Farm, George Orwell uses irony to show the theme of absolute power corrupts, characterization to show the theme of absolute power corrupts, and symbolism to show the theme of absolute power corrupts.…
