Is Brutus A Patriot Or Traitor

There are many controversies when it comes to deciding if Brutus is a patriot or a betrayer. Some would say he is a traitor for joining the plan to kill Caesar, his best friend, without considering other options.
However, I see Brutus as a patriot, the reason is because Brutus did not say yes to Cassius the first-time Cassius offered the chance to Brutus. It is not until Cassius plants the fake notes of Rome in Brutus room that Brutus decides to join the conspiracy. With that, Brutus only joined the conspiracy because he did not want to see the people of Rome become Caesar's slaves. Although Brutus did kill Caesar, Brutus killed Caesar for the sake of Rome, not out of jealousy like the other conspirators but because the love he had for Rome
