Orthopedic surgeons are physicians who treat bone diseases, injuries, and deformities using surgical methods. Like many other surgeons that person should know a lot about medicine and dentistry to be able to diagnose and treat injuries. The person should also be familiar with psychology, because orthopedic surgeons need to know about how humans move and how the bones affect the behaviors and performances. A skill that is very important to becoming an Orthopedic surgeon is judgement and decision making (CareerOneStop). For example an Orthopedic surgeon needs to think about the different options/methods and to choose the best option to treat the patients. Different patients have different disorder, so an Orthopedic surgeon must choose the method that will work the best for each patient. An ability that an Orthopedic surgeon must be good at is finger dexterity (CareerOneStop). For example Orthopedic surgeons have to put together small things to do surgery so the person will need to be good at handling small items. Orthopedic surgeons also have to use lots different instruments to conduct surgery so the person’s fingers should be able to move smoothly. Last but not least, a person must look into the demand and salary based on desired location. In the future there will be lots of job openings and a higher chance to get this job. There is a 3.2% rise in employment each year (Bureau of Labor Statistics). In Hawaii there will be many places that are open for Orthopedic surgeons such as Kaiser Permanente and Hawaii Pacific Health. In the US the lowest salary is $105,960 and the high salary is $208,000+ (CareerOneStop). In Hawaii the lowest salary is $59,090 and the high salary is $208,000
