In “The Black Cat” the narrator states that he is not insane in the very first paragraph, by saying “‘Yet, mad am I not—and very surely do I not dream.”’ (Poe 3) To explain, because the narrator is trying to propagandize his sanity from the very beginning, it is reasonable to assert that the narrator is doubtful of his own sanity.
