According to the Meese commission on pornography, males exposed to violent pornography become desensitized and tend to see rape victims as "less worthy."…
Adults, who watched sex and violence on television regularly, may become desensitized. Adults accustom themselves to the nature of this kind of behavior and it could make them to be desensitized to violence as well as the sexual contents. This type of media could lead to a negative behavior and mislead a human being in society. I recommendations that the problem of media portrayal of sex and violence might be minimized by having programs such as entertainment and education programs which them embeds those desirable behavior of audience in order to minimize the issues of the portrayal of sex and…
Pornography comes in different forms such as pictures, film or writing which stimulates sexual arousal. Child pornography is the deliberate abuse of a minor, it not only destroys Childs self-esteem but it later becomes an issue for society to deal with as well. Children are forced to endure both physical and mental harm. A young mind does not have the capability of understanding that what is happening to them is wrong. The young victims are usually lured into watching explicit materials first by the pedophile, in which it is made to seem as though these acts are acceptable and that “everyone is doing it”.…
Diana Russell argues that the evidence is overwhelming and that exposure to pornography in the main factor in rape cases. Anthony D'Amato argues the the incidence of rape has actually declined in the last 25 years even being accessed to the Internet. D'Amato concludes that "Internet porn has thoroughly demystified sex," and has resulted in substantial decreases in rape and sexual assault. Diana argues excessive exposure to pornographic materials has long been associated with aberrant sexual behavior. Anthony's analysis of the relationship between exposure to pornography on the Internet and declining rates and sexual assault.…
When discussing the “XXX” industry, otherwise known as pornography or the adult film industry, people tend to discuss it in hushed tones, or rather not discuss it much at all. When it comes to sex in general, America generally is uncomfortable talking about sex and topics related to it. It should come as no surprise that the porn industry is treated in a similar fashion. Pornography, according to Sullivan, was considered “sexually 'explicit' writings, still or motion pictures and similar products designed to be sexually arousing,” (Sullivan, 2012, pg.321).…
In social media, people can easily find videos and images that promotes “sexual addictive behavior.” These free sexual images and videos can lead to teens taking the next step on clicking the internet sites that gives “sex chat, sexual hook-ups, prostitutes, or finding old acting-out partners” (Hatch). Paulla Hall, a sex addiction therapist, claims about forty percent of teenagers had seen pornography before age of twelfth. For men, excitement was the reason for their sexual behavior. In women, “affirmation and feeling wanted” was their reason. Because teenagers lack of education and easy access to porn, it can easily lead them to become addicted. Keir Starmer, the Director of Public Prosecutions, admits internet pornography have increased violence in teenage relationships over the year…

The topic I chose is “Pornography and the Sexualization of Society”. I chose this article because I’ve noticed a drastic changes in the media, in advertising, and marketing that influences society in desensitizing us and our beliefs on what is normal and morally acceptable in terms of exposure to sexual content as well as the mass marketing of items that were once rarely seen in your corner drugstore or advertised in major publications.…
American society has become an increasingly pornographic society. It is clearly seen with billboards, electronic billboards advertising gentlemen’s clubs, and other media sources pumping garbage at a vulnerable young generation of teens. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated a strong correlation between exposure to pornography and subsequent adverse effects on the brain, mind, health, and the moral substance of teenagers. The explosive growth of the Internet over the last decade and the easily available pornography to be found on the Web activates an additional threat to society.…

The fact is that a lot of people do a lot of things for sex. Consciously or subconsciously, the urge to procreate as human beings is something that is undeniable. Sigmund Freud is considered to be the founder of psychoanalysis and his theories involve the process of relating many human emotions, actions, and reactions to the primal impulses associated with sex. Although many criticize his theories as incomplete and closed-minded, his research has greatly contributed to mankind’s understanding sexual aggression, love, and many different complexes. These complexes are often transformed into multi-media, and more specifically pornography. Controversial fantasies such as rape, pedophilia, and incest are often the subject of pornographic material and can sometimes lead to the dangerous activity of an emotionally unstable individual and the endangerment of an undeserving victim. On the other hand, a lot of people who have not become serial killers regularly enjoy pornography, individually or as a group, and proceed to live a comfortable family life.…
Sex and violence have continued to be two of the most popular themes to center our media and entertainment around. The television, radio, and internet all act as communication channels that constantly present content containing graphic acts of sex or violence. As a result our current generation has become accustomed to seeing more and more realistic portrayals of sex and violence, numbing them to it in the process. This has a profound effect on our society, specifically the adolescents that are still maturing and learning. Violence and sex are subjects that must be handled with caution, so that young people aren’t wrongly influenced by them. Human beings grow up with a natural ability to learn how to function in their environment and setting. Sexual and violent content are ever more present within many of the things considered to be popular within our culture. Overexposure toward these two themes can easily work to develop and shape a person’s mindset.…
The history of pornography has been dated back to prehistoric times. The actual word is derived from the Greek language. The date of when the word pornographia was first used in Greek is not known but a related word “pornographos” meaning “someone writing of harlots” was used in a writing called Deipnosophists of Athenaeus. In the French language the word "Pornographie" was in used during the 1800s. The word did not enter the English language as the familiar word until 1857 or as a French import in New Orleans in 1842. (Orsini, 2007)…
There is an argument to be made when questioning exposure to pornography and the likelihood this exposure causes an individual to commit rape. The answer is not as simple as yes and no. Diana Russell and Anthony D’Amato offer two very different opinions on the matter of pornography leading to rape. Russell’s main argument centers on the violence in pornography, while D’Amato discusses the decreased occurrences of rape due to the accessibility of pornography on the internet. Though both articles provide evidence to substantiate their claims, Russell and D’Amato present a very black and white argument with their own biases included; whereas, my opinion derives from the history of pornography and rape I know, from these articles, and from my own experiences. Perhaps my opinion can be considered the gray area of this controversial topic because it centers on a person’s propensity to rape.…
Pornography is broadly defined as “any form of explicit representation of the human body or sexual activity with the goal of sexual arousal and/or sexual relief.” It takes form in all sorts of media, including movies, magazines, literature, and artistic representations by which it has made its way into the homes of over 221 million Americans today. It can be professional, amateur, or voyeuristic in nature. The issue of pornography acceptance in society is somewhat based on personal opinion. A large number of Americans enjoy porn and form part of the $100 billion market, whereas others find pornography distasteful and avoid it. Amongst those who enjoy pornography lie many genre preferences of pornography, from anal creampies and bukkakes to illegal forms of pornography such as child and zoophilia-oriented porn. Amongst those with a personal distaste for pornography is the heavy outcry from obscene feminist movements and other critics who favor censorship and claim that pornography is the epitome of society’s moral deterioration by ruining relationships, lives ("pornography addiction"), exploiting women, and worsening perversions.…
