Is Television Harmful
So many TV shows are also very good for teens to watch and also have messages in them that really do get across than someone shouting at them. Lots of shows are not good for young children but in all honestly shows are becoming more and more about everyday life and what goes on in the world so I would say yes but at the same time it’s a shame for parents they are to be careful. I think more shows need to be aimed at children not just 17 right up to 40, but I can think of a few shows that are okay for young children there just isn't enough of them. But for us teens and adults I think some really good shows have come out that really does grab us. I am not one for saying TV is bad because there are so much scenes of using drugs and what not cause if you look at most shows that have it all comes from reason and logic.

Television in a way makes children lazy as they sit behind it doing nothing and usually they gain less from television than from books. It may be argued that it can be watched during our leisure but students spend all their free time watching television instead of dividing it and doing more profitable stuff.

Media is ugly filthy and dirty. It shouldn't exist. But alas it does. That is harmful to everyone, not just children and students. But on this group is the greatest impact. T.V. has fake trash in it that misleads stupid children, who don't know any better and whose parents can't raise them properly and teach them what's bad.

Even though there are many attempts at developing educational programs for children and students, I believe that television does more harm than good. For every Sesame Street, there are 100 Spongebobs (a famous cartoon). And, I believe that children's attention spans are being harmed by television, as well.
I believe that television can be a good tool in educating children and students. However, it is very rarely used as such, considering that quality educational programs are few and far between. Instead, children are typically allowed to make their own programming choices, and those choices that are most appealing contain violence. This desensitizes children to violence and gives them a warped impression of the world.
Rather than increasing the educational channels, television are promoting harmful programs such as violence, worst activities and also drugs. Television promotes harmful programs rather than focusing on education. Violence is the common activity promoted by television by movies, game shows and also cartoons. Therefore, can cause people to act the same way in which these actors and actresses act in these shows. Violence is actually informing their audience to portray their behavior towards their families, friends, and also people in authority. Television promotes guns and knives which would then lead up to causing violence. Sexual activities are also promoted by television through reality shows, movies and also cartoon. A major priority should be the safety of our child watching TV. Most cartoons are based on sexual activities. Most movies at lease must have a seen which contains sexual activities. Some shows theses days would show you how to seek around police and laws to sell drugs or also to create and use drugs. Would this make the economy better in promoting the creation and also distribution of drugs? Hell no, by showing young teens and children how to do this would be saying that we are as community that we are supporting this unlawful behavior. In conclusion, television is not only used to entertain and education but to promote all the harmful behavior and activities that would make our economy in danger. Television has become more a harm that good to young teens and children. We should at lease limit or control in what kids theses days are watching to enhance their skill in knowing wrong from right and to sure this in their daily lives.

• No Many TV shows now are more or less aimed at teens and adults and I agree there are not many shows for children but I wouldn't say TV is bad by all means. Lots of shows now are about the real world and what life is about and I think shows like that get better messages across than someone shouting at you. I have no issue with shows that contain sex, drugs and so on its all part of adult TV. Now yes there needs to be more shows that children can choose from but sadly there isn't many most shows now are aimed at 17 all the way up to 40 year olds which is a shame but it doesn't stop any show what so ever from being good and having fantastic storylines.

• Television is only harmful if you perceive it as reality. I believe that people know the difference between what is portrayed on television as fiction, and what is real. I think that the influence that television has on young people is exaggerated. They are probably exposed to too many commercials and misleading advertising, but I don't think that is innately harmful.

• I believe that the with the increased rate of educational programming on television, it really depends on what you watch.
There are many educational shows on television nowadays, making people who can't afford to go places or see things be able to learn and grow intellectually. For example, small children can learn many things from shows such as sesame street and Dora. Older students can also benefit by watching shows on national geographic and the history channel. Like take me, for instance. I get good grades in the eighth grade, and I probably watch at least 2 hours of shows a day. They also have new parental blocking systems on some TV networks for those finicky parents that believe SpongeBob can rot your brain.

• Yes and no; it's not whether they're watching TV, it's more what they are watching. It boils down to what they are allowed to watch, if all the parents are allowing them to do is watch shows like jersey shore and other nonsense shows that teach nothing more than how to fulfill a stereotype or movies that are coming from Hollywood in a way its desensitizing them, but there is also a positive that can come from that; if that child grows up to join the military they will be desensitized to violent images which may help them cope with what they see and deal with, or if something happens that's emotionally stressing or psychologically damaging those who were desensitized have a higher chance of coping with that situation because they've been desensitized to issues like that. But it all boils down to what they're allowed to watch, if they watch the history channel, or national geographic then they're bound to learn something, they can have fun and watch the pure entertainment but the parents have to make sure they also watch shows where they can actually learn something.

When it came to Neil Postman who talked about how television and movies can also double as being educational, I would have to agree with him. There are many shows on television that prove to be a good way to learn about different aspects of life that one may not have known about before. For example, the food network is where one would turn in order to learn more about a certain food dish, while a channel like the history channel would be used to learn about past times and other countries. Then, there are children’s shows like Dora the Explorer, that help children learn Spanish just by watching television for a mere thirty minutes. Postman made it clear that the television was not the only answer to educating people. There still needs to be a classroom environment in order to ask questions and socialize with other people.…

The first reason why people shouldn’t watch too much television is because the content of many TV programs is not educational. Nowadays we can see movies, series, and shows that show violence, sex, and drugs. This has established wrong concepts among the people that influence them into having a negative behavior. Also, the impact TV has on children is worse because they grow up with the idea of a world where women must be slender and blonde to stand out, where problems can only be solved with money and violence, and where wars are inevitable.…
