Is Television a Good or Bad Influence on Society?
Is television a good or bad influence on society?
A major issue now facing members of the public is television. Is it good or is it bad? Well television is in my opinion very good. For starters it is very cheap all you pay is the one off payment for the television and your TV licence every month. For the price you pay you receive a lot of information and entertainment for the whole family. Television keeps the children busy when you may want a bit of peace and quiet, whilst teaching them at the same time through educational programmes. Television also helps to develop the child's mind by showing them lots of different things and what not to do. Television provides lots of educational programmes for young people to learn and because there is picture people can get an interactive tour into whatever they are studying. It provides vital facts in all subjects such as, science, general knowledge and it even shows you how to make and do things you may not have been able to do before.
TV is very informative and from it we can learn what is going on throughout the whole world via the news. There are current affairs programmes and we can then therefore know where we stand in the world with regards to politics and our rights. Since the introduction of TV many years ago the world has become a much smaller place then previously because people are now so well informed because of TV.
It can also take people that may have disabilities who may never see the world into an interactive tour of the whole world and what goes on within different parts. In broadens other knowledge on other cultures all over the world and encourages us the respect other peoples cultures as they respect ours.
Television is good company to the elderly. It gives them something to look forward to during the day, for instance their favourite soap at 7 o'clock. It gives elderly people a sense that someone is with them and makes them feel comfortable and not alone. It is very enjoyable to elderly people who

Television is just another part of technology keeping us from viewing the world and living our lives as we should. Instead of coming out of our house and taking on any challenge the world might have for us, we easily give up to our laziness, which quickly makes us grab the bag of chips, the soda, and sit down. Even though I am one of the many people who just loves to have the remote by their side, I strongly believe that television is nothing but detrimental to our society.…

According to David Hinckley of New York Daily News, "The average America over the age of 2 spends more than 34 hours a week watching live television plus another 3-6 hours watching taped programs." This statistic shows how much tv can affect us, considering how much we watch it. I want you to think about your favorite tv show right now. I'll bet you that that show contains some kind of violence, sexual interactions, cussing, drug or alcohol usage, stereotypes and many other bad influences. Even shows like Spongebob Squarepants, a kids cartoon, are saying to have subliminal, or hidden, messages that are disturbing and wrong.…

There are certain programs which are more popular than others if you watch them you feel included and that you have something in common with the people around you. Television can also help to foster a sense of national identity, since a significant proportion of the population will be exposed to the same kind of news programs and television shows, so that people feel that they belong to a wider community. TV corrupts our children. Jerome Singer once said, “If you came and saw a strange man teaching your kids to punch each other, or trying to sell them all kind of products, you’d kick him right out of the house, but here you are; you come in and the TV is on, and you don’t think twice about it.” He is correct; entertainment television is an especially bad influence on children for many reasons, including not enough control on violence. These things are quite literally ruining America by corrupting our next generation’s leaders, our children.…

The setting of a story is by far the most important aspect because it is what sets the mood and tone. A haunted house at night creates a different sense of danger and mystery compared to a setting with a small little house and bright skies. Gothic means darkness and to be truly gothic, I believe a story must contain at least one if not all elements such as nighttime, supernatural, and fear of an unknown setting. It is because of these stories that these elements are considered scary today and I think the authors at the time chose them because they get away from the typical romantic setting. The haunted houses in Horace Walpole’s Castle of Otranto and Anna Aikin’s Sir Bertrand: A Fragment are perfect representations of the gothic genre because…

<br>Although there are many benefits of television, American society has most assuredly been adversely affected by it. Since the birth of television, crime has skyrocketed. Many years ago, problems in school were chewing gum and running in the halls. Now, students fear for their lives as our schools have turned into war zones, with school shootings becoming a national problem. Many attribute this problem to the violence children watch on television. Children have become desensitized concerning the value of human life by the many murders and violence viewed on the screen. Television has led to the moral decline in our nation like no other device in history. With the coming of cable and satellite television, Americans now have scores of channels to watch with very little educational value. Many children sit for hours in front of the television, and could not imagine missing a favorite show or movie.…
