Is The American Dream Necessary

There are different reason why people come to America. Most people are looking for the American dream; this includes: looking for a job, family, education, or just for a better life. Those people that come here for a better life think that we, the United States of America, are going to hand it to them, but it doesn’t work like that. As a matter of fact I think that the American Dream is still obtainable but it’s not the old “Shone as a beacon of hope and freedom,” as Barack Obama said in the Keynote Address to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. I think it’s more like: “The belief that hard working citizens can better their lives, pay their monthly bills without worry, give their children a start to an even better live and still have money to retire,” like David Wallechinsky said in Is the American Dream Still Possible? article.
So my family came here looking for a better life, better education, but they knew that nothing was going to be handed to them, that they needed to work for what they want, they are working to live the American Dream. To live the American dream you need to know what you want, work for it, never give up and like William Zinsser said in The Right to Fail essay: “Don’t be afraid to fail! Failure isn’t fatal.” And I strongly agree with him because everybody is afraid to fail, and i’ve started to learn that failing isn’t really that bad, and you should too.
