Is The World Older Than Five Minutes? Me and my friends are sitting for lunch when all the sudden one claims that the world was created five minutes ago. Bertrand Russell says “There is no logical impossibility in the hypothesis that the world sprang into being five minutes ago, exactly as it then was, with a population that "remembered" a wholly unreal past. There is no logically necessary connection between events at different times; therefore, nothing that is happening now or will happen in the future can disprove the hypothesis that the world began five minutes ago." The Analysis of Mind. At first I thought that this statement was absurd. How could everything spring into existence five minutes ago? How can all of our history and memories …show more content…
I believe that I have existed well over five minutes. If all of our memories are said to be fabricated. That everything we have ever experienced was created by a higher power of our imagination. But not only do I have memories but I also have thoughts. Thoughts and the consciousness remains in existence. If everything was created five minutes ago then none of my thoughts could occur before the five minutes. But I have thoughts on my memories and my memories have lasted long before five minutes.
What if the world is updating itself like a smart phone does for new software every five minutes, and the world actually has existed for about 4.5 billion years? That would explain why we have memories of history, or why we have fossils, or even trees for that matter. The world may be just updating to enhance itself.
If everything was created five minutes ago why did the higher power create it the way, he did? Why do we have memories that we cannot process? Why do we have memories that mean nothing to us and that we didn’t create? If the higher power did create the world in the last five minutes, then our memories would be irrelevant to the life we are living now. Also if you do not believe in the higher power then how can everything we could ever imagen be created in less than five minutes? Evolution would of have to take longer than five
