Television is not a bad thing, but in fact is a resource that can be used to educate and entertain people of all ages. There are many programs on television, which do not educate, because everyone needs to be entertained.
I feel that television is a resource that is not used to the full extent that it could be. Television programs that educate are scarce and those that do educate are often on during the day when children are at school. Television stations should organize their programs so that the education shows are shown when children get home from school, so that the children will be able to learn while enjoying themselves at home.
Schools often use television as a way of educating students because on television, they can demonstrate many things that cannot be done in the classroom, and often show things that cannot be experienced in the country or area where the school is located. I think that this is an excellent use of television and more use should be made of it in education, because it offers many advantages to classroom teaching.
The drama serials on television are neither entertaining nor educational. These shows simply depict "real life" (in the broadest sense of the term) and therefore do not teach or entertain (otherwise life itself would be entertaining!) I think that these programs should not be shown. Comedy programs, however, make viewers laugh, feel better, and make people generally happier. These programs should be encouraged, instead of the 'real life' dramas.
Sports programs and broadcasts of sporting matches are very good. With them, fans of the sports can watch only parts of a match, or watch while they are at work. Without these services, people who are ill or disabled or people that had to work on weekends would miss out on sport all together. These programs show only relevant parts of the match and often include player information and information about the tournament or season. These programs are a great service to the public and encourage a healthy life-style.
In general, television is an excellent resource, even though it is not always used to it's full potential, it entertains and sometimes educates. Television would be one of the most useful resources if some important changes were made.

This argument is not to say that television is wrong altogether. This argument is for the opposite. The argument is to point out the importance of balance in the brain for educational purposes. In order to remain a sentient thinker, one must keep the balance strong and exercised. This is done in order to avoid a world of passivism; our minds must be active and thinking at all times. We must transcend the cultural norm to act upon the change needed in society and the world. Do not feed upon the passive narcissism that cultivates a self-centered society, but become a sentient reader and transcend the cultural…

In his article “Television as Teacher” scholar and critic Neil Postman gives his views on what exactly educational television is teaching children. For example, “Parents embraced Sesame Street for several reasons, among them that it assuaged their guilt over the fact that they could not or would not restrict their children’s access to television.” Postman is well known for his claims that television causes people to want more and more entertainment out of life, so much that people begin to expect the news to be entertainment as well. Also, Postman argues that educational television does not teach children things like math, letters, or science, but instead it teaches them to expect entertainment out of their education, and because of this, schools must now try to be more entertaining because that is what children are used to. Postman is correct when he explains that parents can have some wrongs on how children are embrace or eager to hope that television could teach children basic knowledge on TV.…

Television is just another part of technology keeping us from viewing the world and living our lives as we should. Instead of coming out of our house and taking on any challenge the world might have for us, we easily give up to our laziness, which quickly makes us grab the bag of chips, the soda, and sit down. Even though I am one of the many people who just loves to have the remote by their side, I strongly believe that television is nothing but detrimental to our society.…

They see adults acting chaotic; cursing, fighting, screaming, etc. in public areas. This gives people a negative outlook on the world. On the other hand, watching television can be educational in a positive way because there is more to television than reality shows. Television has many positively influenced shows such as: nature, animal, etc. and also negatively influenced shows.…

When it came to Neil Postman who talked about how television and movies can also double as being educational, I would have to agree with him. There are many shows on television that prove to be a good way to learn about different aspects of life that one may not have known about before. For example, the food network is where one would turn in order to learn more about a certain food dish, while a channel like the history channel would be used to learn about past times and other countries. Then, there are children’s shows like Dora the Explorer, that help children learn Spanish just by watching television for a mere thirty minutes. Postman made it clear that the television was not the only answer to educating people. There still needs to be a classroom environment in order to ask questions and socialize with other people.…

On the other hand, television programs have also positive things. There are learning shows and history shows that are educational content. My one year old baby loves to watch baby Einstein, and Elmo, in my opinion she learns the ABCs and the numbers with this program. Since she gets entertained by these programs, I take advantage of doing my chores at home. Little kids build a strong relationship that parents can control while they are growing up. I remember my father had a “parental control” for our TV, this choice can lock those programs that parents believe aren’t educational for their children. Now days, this a perfect strategy parents have so they can control what their children watch and the times they watch it.…

Television, like anything else, has as much educational value as you allow it to. For example, television documentaries and sitcoms serve to reinforce or challenge societal norms and ideologies while reality television shows, in general, are intended to challenge long held beliefs and traditions. In contrast, Networks like as PBS and Nickelodeon educate young minds and the several hundred cable channels serve to support the education, whether easily apparent or trans[arentt, provided by the shows I've already mentioned as well as others. Therefore I would argue that television has significant educational value you only has to channel surf to se" that.…
