Wal-Mart is probably one of the most recognizable company’s in the world. As stated earlier there are over 600 Wal-Mart discount stores in the United States. Wal-Mart has over 3,000 supercenters in the United States. They have a combination of these two styles of stores in over 28 countries around the world. Stores that are located outside of the United States operate under a different banner, but still have the same goal as their sister stores in the United States: Save people money, so they can live better. (1) Not only is the name Wal-Mart very recognizable, but each store offers the community it is located in the possibility of having a lower unemployment rate. Each discount store employs around 225 employees, where as a supercenter employs around 350 employees. Not only does Wal-Mart employ numerous employees in the United States, but outside of the United States Wal-Mart has employed over 740,000 employees in over 5,000 stores. This puts Wal-Mart as a strong player in the global business world with representation in so many countries throughout the world.…
1. The U.S. is in a shrinking economy. Many plants are closed and many people are unemployed. The big retailers change their suppliers from U.S. manufactures to the developing countries’ manufactures, which cost much less. The competition between the suppliers( manufactures) is more intensive. The supplier has less prower is retail business. The market is shift from supplier dependence to buyer dependence, which means the buyer/ retailer has more prower. They very know their customers’ needs and wants, and they determine what the manufactures should produce, including the specific product, the schedule, the quality, and the price. Retailers are now more powerful than manufacturers, and they are forcing the decision to move production offshore.2…
Wal-Mart is now the largest grocer, largest retailer, largest corporation in the world. "If Wal-Mart was a nation, it would have a bigger economy than 80 percent of the world's countries"(Singer and Mason). About "138 million people go to one of Wal-Mart's 5,000 stores in the United States and nine other countries", and purchase more than $300 billion every year (Singer and Mason). With a 1.6 million global workforce, Wal-Mart has become the biggest private employer "in the United States, as well as in Mexico and Canada"(Singer and Mason). "Wal-Mart already has 11 percent of all U.S. Grocery store sales," and "by 2013 that figure is likely to rise to 21 percent"(Singer and Mason). As a big corporation, Wal-Mart insists on providing "everyday low prices". The affordable prices for families, which are offered by Wal-Mart, generates "significant savings for consumers on their grocery, apparel, and general merchandise spending, and the redirected spending from the savings" also creates a lot of jobs (LAEDC). All of the above facts shows that Wal-Mart is good for the economy and makes a great contribution to the society.…
The first component of Wal-Mart is business commerce. Business commerce is when Wal-Mart exchange good and services with other businesses. For example, Wal-Mart has a hair salon service; I love to get my hair done every other week. Also, many Wal-Marts provide banking services and some fast food services. Wal-Mart has stock trades also. Another main component of Wal-Mart is business occupation. Business occupation is the acquired set of specialized skills and abilities that allows Wal-Mart to create valuable goods and services. When my husband started at Wal-Mart he had to undergo several trainings to ensure that he understands the business and also that he provides customers with excellent services. Wal-Mart provides thorough training to its employees so that they can keep the customers coming back. Customers always value great customer service. I think this is one way Wal-Mart remains ahead of its competitors. The last main component of Wal-Mart is business organization. Business organization is the system of task and authority relationship which coordinates and controls the interactions between people so that they work toward a common goal. Wal-Mart’s common goal is to provide low prices. They try to provide lower prices than their competitors. They are about saving their customers money. They have reduced the costs of their retail and other products in the store. There are many Wal-Marts around the world and they provide the same services in all of them. I love Wal-Mart and I agree that they have prices lower than many other retailers. I definitely agree with their slogan, it is so true. “Save money, Live better”.…
My views on Wal-mart and the company's effect on the standard of living within the United States varies drastically. I do not think that it is possible to say definitively whether or not their practices are positive or negative when it comes to the effect they have on the standard of living, however, we can measure their effect based on what has been seen in the time they have been open and attempt to foresee a trend.…
Wal-Mart is a nationwide company and is a household term almost everyone knows. Some people find it as a store that tends to help the less wealthy, while others find it to be the complete opposite in aiding underprivileged families. Wal-Mart has different attributes to show that it is a good source of assistance for our society. Those services consist of low prices, a variety of goods, and it provides jobs. These details might be over looked when not observed closely, preventing people from truly appreciating what Wal-Mart is doing for our society. Despite all of the controversy, Wal-Mart is good for America.…
We all want to do what is best for our families, our friends, ourselves and our country. However, our nation’s number one corporation is under constant ridicule for being a negative part of the American way. Wal-Mart is the overall number one on the fortune 500, over taking Exxon Mobile after a one year slip to the number 2 spot. However Wal-Mart is constantly being ridiculed by media and everyday citizens, its employees included. These opinions are often brought forth because of four major issues; the pay and benefits packages of Wal-Mart employees, the quality and buying of their goods from China, big box corporation killing local businesses ,and Wal-Mart taking jobs away and not creating new, stronger jobs .To answer each question I will use research from many different mediums, financial statements, and my personal experience as a three year Wal-Mart employee, and present facts and numbers that would be crucial in making an educated decision, following this information I will present what I believe is strong and weak about Wal-Marts current way of doing business, and then offer my solutions to answer these questions and answer the big question. Is Wal-Mart good or bad for America?…
As a customer, I think that Wal-Mart is bad for the America, because the Wal-Mart company hurts the local communities. Most people know that when Wal-Mart comes to town, the company outsources small businesses and shops. Wal-Mart does not rely affect small businesses, but it is a competition to other big department store. For example, in the film, “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price,” the documentary discusses that Wal-Mart is the largest company in America and it can put out other businesses like Target, Sears, or any other businesses. For these reasons, many business owners are worried that they may lose businesses because of Wal-Mart.…
Despite what Lindsey said, I believe that Wal-Mart is contributing to the damage of this economy. By making the prices so low, Wal-Mart has to lower the salaries of its workers to make a profit. The employee has to work more hours for less money. That’s why I believe that Wal-Mart is not good for America.…
Walmart is the largest retailer in the universe and has the most jobs in the private sector currently. They presently have more than 2.2 million people employed worldwide. With a large amount of money, stores, and influence, they have been part of thousands of legal issues. Over the past 10 years, Walmart has put out of business a number of individuals by having the same products at a lower price. They have not only shut down a number of businesses due to the undercutting of competitor prices but they also made a great deal of people lose higher paying jobs during their expansion to pay their employees very low wages with marginal benefits (Logan 2014). Walmart has seen a great deal of external social pressures however we will focus on the external social pressures they have encountered due to their direct effect on the economy. Since Walmart is a big factor in regards to the economy a number of people look to them for assistance in acquiring a job. Nonetheless, Walmart has impacted the economy by not offering well-paying jobs to employees and having very…
Walmart being good for America is a controversial subject for many people. In my opinion, Walmart is more good for America in several ways. But in some ways it is also bad for America. It is good for the economy. Walmart is one of the biggest companies in America and it brings in a 35 thousand dollar profit.…
July 2nd, 1962 Sam Walton opened the first Walmart in Rogers, Arkansas. Walmart is a name that is commonly known in every household across the United States of America. It’s right around the corner to nearly all Americans and a haven for bargain hunters, so people think. Walmart brings jobs and helps the economy when they move to the area. This is another misconception Walmart wants you to believe. Walmart actually is doing the exact opposite. Sure it creates jobs, poverty level paying jobs with less than forty hours a week and no benefits. People who own and operate their own businesses, who actually stimulate their local economy, are at risk for going bankrupt and losing everything they have. Why would people want to spend money when they can get a similar product at Walmart for half the cost? There’s a simple answer to that question, people don’t want to spend money they don’t have to. Millions of people in the United States are living paycheck to paycheck working minimum wage jobs. These people can’t afford to buy products from a local family run store. The only places they’re able to go and get everything they need is Walmart and other big box businesses who can offer cheap…

Its size, power, and low prices are what make Walmart so helpful to America. So why do some people think that Walmart is so bad for American people? (Found in Walmart Nation packet, which was given in class) Many people believe that this is a true debate. Everyone has his or her own point of view. If you think about it, is Walmart really good for America? Walmart has made many changes since it was first opened in 1962, by Sam Walton. By the end of 2003, there were 2,551 Walmart stores in the U.S. and this is all including supercenters, Sam's Club's and the famous neighboring markets.(Found in Walmart Nation packet, which was given out in class) After going over all the facts, Walmart is good for America.…
I feel that Walmart has a positive and negative impact at the community, in the US and globally. Regrettably the only positive is that they do offer products at a discount price which helps low income people in that community. However, on the negative side, most of Walmart employees are defined as low income families. The documentary showed that “the average pay at Walmart is a little over $13,000 a year. The Federal poverty threshold for a family of four is $17,000.” Poverty is defined as “the lack of resources necessary for material well-being: food, water, housing, land and healthcare” (Nguyen, 2015 ch. 6, slide 3) which indicates that a family will not earn enough working just part time at Walmart. A store manager in the documentary…
