Isaac Newton
Background Information Isaac Newton was born On December 25th 1642 in the small village of Wools Thorpe, in Lincolnshire, England. His father, Robert, died three months before he was born. Isaac's mother remarried a wealthy clergyman, Reverend Barnabus Smith, who wanted Isaac to be educated. He was sent to King's School in Gratham. There is very little known about his school days.
In 1660, Isaac went to Trinity College in Cambridge. There he scribbled notes in his notebook about Galileo, Rene Descartes, and Aristotle. These scientists were influenced by the Greek thinker, Aristotle; most of his teachings had problems and proven wrong and need to be replaced.
Inventions and Discoveries
Of all his greatest achievements, Newton is best known for his discovery of the laws of gravity and movement. He also formed the basis of calculus. Calculus is a branch of mathematics. Newton did not tell anyone of his discovery. Instead, he used calculus to create others discoveries. He also designed the reflecting telescope.
Science concept:
Newton’s First law- There is a natural tendency of objects to keep on doing what they're doing.
Newton’s second law- Everyone unconsciously knows the Second Law. Everyone knows that heavier objects require more force to move the same distance as lighter objects. | | | | | |

Newton’s third law- Every action has equal and opposite reaction. This means that whenever an object pushes another object it gets pushed back in the opposite direction equally hard. |

Personal reflections: I picked Newton as my scientist because before I learned about him, I knew he found the laws of gravity and motion. He gave the phrase to the world “What goes up, must come down”.
The interesting thing to learn about Newton is that although he did not have a very promising start, yet he went on to become a very great scientist. He was a premature baby and was not expected to survive. He was worst as a farmer when he started to help his mother on the farm. He was bullied in school. He overcame all these circumstances and became a world renowned scientist. This was the most inspiring part of Newton’s life.
